1959 Mercedes-Benz Ponton

This 1959 Mercedes-Benz 220S convertible was restored between 2011 and 2018. It is finished in Almandine Red Metallic over cream leather and powered by a 2.2-liter inline-six mated to a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a tan soft top, 13″ steel wheels with with whitewall tires, wrap-around chrome bumpers, fender-mounted turn signals, individual front seats, a dash-mounted clock, and a heater. Service in 2022 included rebuilding the transmission, the fuel pump, and the carburetors, changing the oil and transmission fluid, and replacing the front crankshaft seal, rear main seal, spark plugs, points, condenser, and air filter. The seller purchased this W180 cabriolet in 2023 and it is now offered with a clean California title in their name. Originally Light Blue Metallic, the car was repainted in Almandine Red Metallic—an early 1990s Mercedes color—between 2011 and 2018. Exterior work included re-plating the trim installing a replacement soft top from GAHH, and replacing some of the body panels, the windows, and the exterior seals. Steel 13″ wheels wear full covers and are mounted with 175/80 BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall tires. The brakes and suspension were overhauled between 2011 and 2018. Service in 2022 included repairing and replacing several brake cables. The cabin was reupholstered in cream leather during the build using materials from GAHH. The wood trim was refurbished by Madeira Concepts, and the seller notes that the brightwork was re-plated. Appointments include individual front seats and a rear bench, a VDO clock, and a heater. The shifter bushing was replaced in 2022, and the Becker Mexico radio does not work. The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a sweeping 110-mph speedometer with auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 66k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. The 2.2-liter M180 inline-six was rebuilt between 2011 and 2018. Service in 2022 included rebuilding the fuel pump and carburetors, changing the oil and transmission fluid, and replacing the front crankshaft seal, rear main seal, spark plugs, points, condenser, and air filter. Service in 2024 included repairing and adjusting the carburetors and replacing the battery.
