This 1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible was purchased by the seller in 2010 and underwent a four-year refurbishment that began in 2016. The body was removed, repaired, and repainted in pearlescent green, chassis repairs were carried out, and a replacement 2.1L flat-four was mated to the four-speed manual transaxle. Stainless-steel bumpers, 911-style headlights, and older-style taillights and indicators were installed along with chromed 15″ Fuchs-style wheels, lowered suspension, rear disc brakes, ISP gauges, tan leather upholstery, and a 1962 dashboard. Additional replaced components include the clutch, tires, chassis rubber, black convertible soft top, engine and transmission mounts, and more as detailed below. This Karmann Ghia convertible is now offered with a clean Washington title in the seller’s name. The car was refinished in pearlescent green during the refurbishment, following chassis and body repairs. The replacement black canvas convertible top was mated to the previously installed glass rear window, and additional exterior details include polished stainless-steel bumpers with overriders in addition to 911-style H4 headlights, earlier-style taillights and front indicators, and a vented decklid. The windshield wipers and side mirrors were not reinstalled, and close-up photos of the finish are provided in the gallery below. Chrome-plated 15″ Fuchs-style wheels wear 195/65 Continental ContiProContact tires that have 2016 and 2017 production-date codes. The car rides on lowered suspension, and braking is provided by four-wheel discs. The front bucket seats and the folding rear bench are upholstered in tan leather, and the door panels are trimmed to match. Additional interior appointments include three-point front seatbelts, door-pull straps, and a passenger-side grab handle. The wood-rim steering wheel fronts replacement ISP instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a fuel-level gauge, while gauges for oil pressure and temperature are housed in the center of the 1962-model dashboard. The six-digit odometer shows 1,300 miles, said to represent the mileage since completion of the refurbishment. Total chassis mileage is unknown. The 2,054cc flat-four was assembled and installed with replacement mounts during the refurbishment. It is equipped with dual carburetors, CB Performance Gen 4 electronic fuel injection, and Magnaspark Crank Trigger ignition along with a higher-capacity oil sump and an external oil cooler. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement clutch along with a four-speed manual transaxle, and its support was replaced along with the axles. The floor pans and heater channels were also replaced, the frame was seam-sealed, and additional underside images can be viewed in the gallery. Filed under: vw
