This 1963 Morgan Plus 4 four-passenger roadster was purchased by the seller in 2008 and subsequently underwent a multi-year mechanical refurbishment that was completed in March 2022 and included rebuilds of the brakes, suspension, engine, gearbox, driveshaft, and differential. The car is finished in cream with tan fenders over black leather upholstery, and it is powered by a 2,138cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a black soft top, 15″ wire wheels, running boards, a luggage rack, fender-mounted side mirrors, fog lights, seatbelts, side curtains, a tonneau cover, front disc brakes, a detachable one-piece windscreen, and a wood steering wheel. This Plus 4 is now offered with refurbishment photos and records, a Morgan Motor Company Chassis Record, the owner’s manual, service records, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. Originally finished in white, the car was repainted cream in 2006, and the fenders were refinished in tan under current ownership. Additional features include a black soft top, a top boot, running boards, a luggage rack, fender-mounted side mirrors, fog lights, side curtains, a tonneau cover, a detachable one-piece windscreen, and chrome bumpers with a front badge bar. The rear bumper has been removed but is included in the sale. The seller notes an area of separation on the soft top around the rear fasteners. The front grille was re-chromed in 2022. The 15″ wire wheels with knock-off hubs were mounted with 165SR15 Michelin XZX tires in 2022, and a spare is affixed to the rear. The front brake calipers were rebuilt in 2022 and replacement pads were installed along with rear shoes and Datsun 240Z-spec aluminum finned drums that were machined to fit the rear hubs. The axles were overhauled and replacement leaf springs were fitted, as was a rear telescopic Koni shock conversion kit. Chrome kingpins and bronze front suspension bushings were also added. The front and rear seats, inner sills, and transmission tunnel were re-trimmed in black leather in 2007. The door and side panels were replaced and Wilton wool carpets were added to the floors and firewall. Additional appointments include a wood dashboard, seatbelts, and a rearview mirror. The custom wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 1,300 of which have been added since completion of the refurbishment. The removed Bluemels Brooklands steering wheel accompanies the vehicle. The Triumph-sourced 2,138cc inline-four was rebuilt in 2021 and fitted with dual Weber DCOE 40 carburetors during the install the following year. The cylinder head was ported and rebuilt using Trick Flow valves, a dual spring kit, silicon bronze conversion guides, and aluminum retainers. The engine build also involved installing 87mm pistons, Carrillo connecting rods, an aftermarket camshaft, a jet-coated tubular header, a stainless-steel exhaust system, an aluminum fuel tank, and an electric fuel pump. An aluminum radiator was fitted in 2022. The manual chokes for the carburetors have not been installed. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which was overhauled and resealed in 2014. A heavy duty clutch and lightweight flywheel were also installed. The floorboards were replaced and the frame refinished under current ownership. Engine stamping CT23590ME is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the Chassis Record below. The Morgan Motor Company Chassis Record indicates that the car was dispatched to Los Angeles, California on September 26, 1963, and shows factory colors and equipment. Photos from various stages of the refurbishment are provided in the gallery.
