This 1939 Ford Deluxe Woodie Station Wagon is on offer by its repeat long term owner who bought it in the late 1960s when he was 15. The wagon left the seller’s possession for a time, and went to an enthusiast in Puerto Rico. The owner in Puerto Rico replaced the original pine woodie body with a teak and tiger maple body with the same design and dimensions. The seller purchased his old surf wagon back around 20 years ago and has been enjoying it since. This Woodie is offered with a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name. The wood bodywork on this ’39 Ford has received a substantial material upgrade in the form of teak structural wood with tiger maple paneling. The body was fully stripped before being painted, revealing solid metal beneath the old paint. The dents and other marks were left intact before the matte black paint was applied. The front end has been lowered with a Mor-Drop 4″ drop axle, and the standard height rear gives the car an aggressive rake. The car retains a largely stock appearance otherwise, with original trim still fitted on the hood centerline, sides, and grille. There is some pitting present, but the trim is straight and true throughout. Though the wood was all replaced during the restoration, the original glass was retained and shows some fogging consistent with its age on several panes, and some cracking on the driver’s door glass. The logos on the front doors are vinyl and are removable. The suicide doors open to reveal a original-looking interior, with attractive brown vinyl on the seats and pine paneling on the inner doors. The seller notes some dents on the rear wheel arches from the rear doors, though the wood does not appear to have suffered. Dash hardware looks nice with original gauges and stock switchgear. The dash and windshield surrounds are metal, but have been given a wood-look finish which is fairly convincing in photos. The banjo spoke steering wheel is stock and wears a rim cover. The 76k indicated miles are not believed accurate. In lieu of a cloth headliner this wagon has a teak plank overhead, with contrasting stringers. Fastening hardware at the windshield frame and C-pillar joints appears to be correct. The car is fitted with its original 239 cubic inch flathead V8, which has been upgraded with a modern alternator as part of the conversion to 12 volt electrics. The engine is backed by its stock 3-speed floor-shift transmission and rear end. The underside appears straight and dry, with new-looking shocks and only a light dusting of normal road dirt. Teak and maple are both less prone to rot and warping and overall this is a nicely done Woodie with good curb appeal and an interesting ownership history.
