2004 Ford GT40 Replica

This 2004 CAV GT is a tribute to the 1965 Ford GT40 that was built as a kit by Cape Advanced Vehicles in South Africa and purchased by the seller four years ago from Legendary Motorcar in Toronto. This right-hand drive example is powered by a 348ci Ford stroker V8 mated to a ZF 5-speed gearbox and finished in period Gulf livery. The seller has driven it approximately 2,000 miles over his ownership and placed second in class at the 2015 Targa Newfoundland. The car reportedly received a fluid change in spring 2018 and is offered with build records and a clean Ontario title in the seller’s name. The above photo highlights the period Gulf-themed livery as well as 15″ Halibrand-style knock-off wheels, which are color-matched to the body’s orange center stripe. According to the seller, the fiberglass front bodywork was replaced along with the radiator and support after suffering damage at the 2015 Targa Newfoundland. The car went on to finish second in class at the event. The interior is fitted with a dash arrangement, seats, and steering wheel resembling those of the Mk1 GT40 but was reportedly designed with more spacious interior dimensions. Sparse amenities include bolstered leather bucket seats finished with grid-patterned grommets and featuring 5-point safety harnesses. A fire suppression system has also been fitted. No carpeting, air conditioning system, or other creature comforts are included. Smiths gauges include a 220-mph speedometer with a digital odometer that reportedly shows 5k miles. The 348ci Ford stroker V8 features a FAST electronic fuel injection system capped with a set of velocity stacks and powers the rear wheels through a ZF 5-speed gearbox.
