This 1990 BMW M3 was purchased by the seller as a rolling chassis on BaT in October 2014 and subsequently built as a tarmac rally car. Refinished in white with tri-color stripes, the car is powered by a European-specification 3.2-liter S50B32 inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission sourced from an E36 M3. Additional modifications include a seam-welded chassis, a front skid plate, a roll cage, a fiberglass hood, polycarbonate windows, 17″ BBS wheels, E36 M3-specification brake components, adjustable coilover suspension, OMP fixed-back bucket seats and harnesses, an AiM MXS digital display, a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, and a fire suppression system. This M3 is now offered in California with spare parts, build records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Montana title in the name of the seller’s LLC. The seller states that the chassis was sandblasted and seam welded, and during the process prior accident damage on the right-front was repaired with a replacement frame rail and wheel housing. The body was then refinished in white with tri-color Motorsport motif stripes, and modifications include an aluminum front skid plate, a fiberglass hood with quick-release pins, polycarbonate windows, drilled door handles, and chassis mount points for pin stands. The seller notes that the horn and lights are functional. Noted flaws include uneven panel gaps and some imperfections in the paint, photos of which can be viewed in the gallery below. 17” BBS RK001 wheels with a polished finish are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R tires. Stopping power is provided by E36 M3-specification brake components and an E46 M3-specifcation Bosch Motorsports ABS system. The suspension has been fitted with Ground Control adjustable coilovers as well as adjustable control arms, camber plates, and reinforced rear trailing arms. The cabin has been outfitted with twin black-upholstered OMP fixed-back bucket seats with contrasting white stitching and six-point OMP harnesses. Additional features include a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, carbon-fiber door and footwell panels, Tilton pedals, an adjustable steering column, a Firecharger fire-suppression system, and a roll cage with door bars that is said to have been built by TC Design of Campbell, California. The rear seats, carpets, headliner, lower dashboard, and center console have been removed and toggle switches for the lights, horn, and other accessories have been mounted in the center stack. The gauge cluster has been replaced with an AiM MXS digital display and data logger that shows engine and other data. Approximately 200 shakedown miles are said to have been driven since the build. The 3.2-liter S50B32 inline-six was sourced from a European-market E36 M3 and was factory rated at 321 horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque. Features include six individual throttle bodies and continuously-variable VANOS valve timing on both cams. According to the seller, the fluids, sensors, coil packs, and spark plugs were recently changed, and the custom exhaust system is fitted with a catalytic converter and removable turn-down rear tip. Power is sent to the rear wheels though a five-speed manual transmission sourced from a US-specification E36 M3, and the 3.38:1 differential wears an E36-sourced rear cover and is tied into the cage. The Carfax report shows history in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Montana from its first entry in February 1995. The car is supplied with spare engine parts, a rally light pod, a jack, a set of four pins stands, a tool kit, and build records. Filed under: 3 series, 3-series, e30, e30 m3, s14
