1964 Porsche 356C

This 1964 Porsche 356SC coupe was completed on December 2, 1963 and converted to a race car under prior ownership, competing in SVRA and HSR events throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Following several years of storage, the car was repainted Dolphin Grey and fitted with replacement floor pans before being acquired by the seller approximately six years ago. Subsequent reconditioning reportedly consisted of refreshes of the suspension, brakes, ignition, and electrical systems, along with the installation of a replacement clutch and flywheel, aluminum Speedster-style seats, a trunk-mounted fuel cell, dual Weber carburetors, and a Bluetooth-enabled distributor. Power is supplied by a replacement 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and additional equipment includes a roll cage with door bars, latch-and-link lap belts, a front-mounted oil cooler, driving lamps, leather hood straps, four-wheel disc brakes, 15” Fuchs wheels, a polycarbonate rear window, and plexiglass side windows. The battery, spark plugs, and ignition wires are said to have been replaced in preparation for the sale. This 356SC is now offered with the removed engine case, two Solex carburetors, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean Minnesota title in the seller’s name, listing it as a 1965 model. The body was finished from the factory in Dolphin Grey (6410) and was reportedly repainted around 2016, at which time replacement floor pans are said to have been installed. Matte black #24 roundels have been applied to the hood, rear bodywork, and both doors, and the bumpers have been removed. Additional exterior details include yellow-tinted headlight lenses and driving lamps with Marchal-branded covers, leather hood straps, black bullet-style mirrors mounted on the fenders, chrome rear bumperettes, a polycarbonate rear window, and removable plexiglass side windows. Paint bubbles are reported near an inner rear quarter window, as well as around the rain rails and under the driver’s door. The windshield washer nozzles are inoperable. The 15” Fuchs alloy wheels were refinished in matte black in 2017 and are mounted with 185/65 Sentury Touring tires. According to the seller, the suspension was refreshed, the steering coupler replaced, and the four-wheel disc brakes overhauled in January 2019. An axle boot was repaired in preparation for the sale. The race-prepped interior houses a roll cage with door bars and was fitted with blue leather and plaid fabric aluminum Speedster-style bucket seats during current ownership. The transmission tunnel is covered in blue vinyl and a black rubber mat lines the floors. Details include black door panels, latch-and-link lap belts, an Emory Outlaw shift knob, a fire extinguisher, and toggle switches for vehicle functions. The car is not fitted with a horn and the glovebox is wired shut. Note that the pictured roll cage camera mount is not included in the sale. A Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of a body-color metal dashboard housing VDO instrumentation that has been converted to electric operation and includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge. A trio of auxiliary displays is mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 13k miles, around 1k of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown. The replacement 1.6-liter flat-four was installed under previous ownership and reportedly features a modified engine case as well as forged pistons, ported cylinder heads, upgraded valves, and a custom-ground camshaft. An oil cooler has been added up front, and the car is equipped with a custom exhaust system. Dual Weber carburetors with velocity stacks, upgraded emulsion tubes, and replacement venturis were installed under current ownership, along with a trunk-mounted fuel cell and a Bluetooth-enabled distributor. According to the seller, a replacement wiring harness and wiring were installed in 2017 and the crankshaft main seal was replaced in 2019. Maintenance in preparation for the sale is said to have consisted of an oil change, carburetor tuning, and replacement of the battery, spark plugs, and ignition wires. An oil leak and occasional backfiring is noted by the seller. The removed engine case is included in the sale, and engine stamping 810787 is shown above, which matches the number listed on the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Two spare Solex 40 PII-4 carburetors also accompany the vehicle. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 741/2C four-speed manual transaxle that is said to have been fitted with a replacement clutch and flywheel in 2019.
