This 1960 Fiat-Abarth 850 Record Monza Zagato is said to have received a refurbishment in Iowa in the early 2000s before being imported to Canada, where it was purchased by the selling dealer in 2017. Featuring aluminum bodywork finished in red, chassis 707296 is powered by a replacement 903cc OHV inline-four that breathes through a single Weber carburetor and is outfitted with a finned alloy oil sump. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transaxle, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes, Campagnolo alloy wheels, tubular bumpers, and black upholstery over buttress-style bucket seats. This Record Monza is now offered in Gatineau, Canada, with Quebec registration. The Record Monza was introduced in October 1958 as a development of the 750 Zagato GT and was named in celebration of Abarth’s endurance records around the Monza circuit. Like its predecessor, the model featured aluminum coachwork by Milan’s Zagato, but with styling updated to incorporate a smooth roof, a single intake scoop on the rear decklid, and quarter windows in the sail panels. This example is finished in red and is said to have undergone cosmetic work during the refurbishment performed approximately 20 years ago. Features include tubular front and rear bumpers, faired-in headlights, pop-out door handles, a driver-side mirror, dual exhaust outlets, and Record Monza badges on each sail panel. A crack in the finish near the rear decklid handle is shown up close in the photo gallery below. Campagnolo alloy wheels are wrapped in Pirelli Cinturato CN54 tires, while a steel spare is secured in the front compartment. Stopping is handled by finned hydraulic drum brakes at each corner, while independent suspension incorporates a transverse front leaf spring, a semi-trailing-arm rear setup with coil springs, and hydraulic shock absorbers all around. The cabin houses fixed-back bucket seats that feature flying-buttress bolsters and are trimmed in black upholstery. Color-matched carpeting lines the floors, while beige upholstery covers the door panels and rear side panels. Additional features include red lap belts, roll-up windows, and door pockets. The three-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 6,800-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge monitoring fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 335 miles, approximately five of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown. The 903cc inline-four was installed under previous ownership and features a single camshaft, overhead valves, a finned alloy oil sump, and a single twin-choke Weber carburetor. An engine service is said to have been performed in 2017 prior to the selling dealer’s purchase. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a province that does not issue titles for vehicles. It is being sold on its registration.
