1998 BMW Alpina

This 1998 Alpina is one of 59 long-wheelbase B12 5.7 sedans modified by the company, with alterations including a reworked 5.7-liter V12 and Switch-Tronic five-speed automatic transmission as well as Alpina-specific lower bodywork, trim, 20″ wheels, and revised suspension and braking systems. Finished in BMW Individual Alpina Blue Metallic over anthracite Buffalo leather, the car is also equipped with heated and power-adjustable front and rear seats, rear tray tables, three-zone automatic climate control, xenon headlights, Park Distance Control, a sunroof, and navigation. It was first delivered in Germany and relocated in 2005 to Japan, where it was acquired by the seller in 2018. This B12 has 93k kilometers (~58k miles) and is offered in Canada with manufacturer’s literature, Alpina documentation and literature, two key fobs, a clean Carfax report, and Ontario registration in the seller’s name. Alpina-specific details consist of a revised front air dam and a rear valance with quadruple exhaust tips, and this long-wheelbase example was ordered through BMW’s Individual department to be finished in Alpina Blue Metallic with gold Alpina decor. The car is also equipped with a power-operated sunroof, Park Distance Control, xenon headlights, fog lights, and headlight washers. Staggered-width 20″ Alpina wheels with hidden valve stems are mounted with 245/40 front and 275/35 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires. The car is equipped with shorter and stiffer springs compared to the standard 7-Series, and this example is also equipped with a Fichtel & Sachs level control system, Electronic Damper Control, and Automatic Stability Control. Stopping power is provided by floating and ventilated discs at all four corners. The heated and power-adjustable front comfort seats are trimmed in anthracite Buffalo leather with patterned blue and green inserts, while anthracite birch wood trim accents the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Appointments include an on-board computer, navigation, three-zone automatic climate control, a wood shift knob, an anthracite headliner, Alpina-motif floor mats, and a BMW Professional Hi-Fi Audio System connected to a trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer. The center console trim is cracked. A serialized plaque affixed to the overhead console identifies this Alpina B12 5.7 as #42 in the series. The rear outboard seats are also heated and power-adjustable, and individual tray tables and illuminated vanity mirrors are integrated into the backs of the front seats. The back of the center console displays onboard computer information and has controls for the sunshades, audio, right-front seat position, and rear passenger climate system. The leather-wrapped steering wheel features Switch-Tronic shift buttons and contrasting stitching, and it fronts a 330-kph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 93k kilometers (~58k miles), approximately 10k of which were added under current ownership. The M73 V12 was modified by Alpina with an increase in displacement to 5.7 liters with Mahle pistons as well as revised camshafts, valves, and engine management. Alpina rated the engine at 387 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller states the oil was most recently changed in September 2022. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF Switch-Tronic five-speed automatic transmission. The Alpina build sheet lists the colors, components, and option codes. Two key fobs are also included in the sale along with BMW and Alpina literature. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Alberta and Ontario from the first entry in 2019 through its most recent in April 2021. The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a province that does not issue titles for vehicles. It is being sold on its registration.
