This 1972 Volvo 1800ES was brought to Canada from the US under previous ownership and is said to have sat idle for approximately 20 years before being acquired by the seller in 2022. A subsequent refurbishment included rebuilding the 2.0-liter inline-four, stripping and resealing the undercarriage, and servicing or replacing components from the drivetrain, interior, and suspension as well as the braking, cooling, fuel, and ignition systems. The car is finished in red over black leather upholstery and features a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, 16″ Centaurus wheels, a glass rear hatch, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, lowering springs, a RetroSound Bluetooth stereo, and a heater. This 1800ES is now offered with parts invoices and Alberta registration. The car was finished in Cherry Red (46) from the factory and is said to have been repainted in the 1980s. Exterior features include an aftermarket sunroof, a glass rear hatch, quarter vent windows, dual side mirrors, bright trim, twin exhaust outlets, and a retractable antenna. Photos highlighting the condition of the exterior are provided below. Silver-finished 16″ Centaurus alloy wheels are mounted using wheel spacers and wear Royal Black Royal A/S tires. The car has been fitted with lowering springs, a 1″ front sway bar, and a Nordicar rear adjustable stabilizer rod. Stopping is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with stainless-steel braided brake hoses. Work completed under current ownership has included rebuilding the steering box, control arms, brake calipers, and brake proportioning valve. The seating surfaces are trimmed in black leather, and interior appointments include a front-passenger grab handle, a fold-down rear seat, a locking console storage compartment, a heater, and a RetroSound Bluetooth stereo and speakers. Sound-deadening material was reportedly installed around the interior. Wear is seen on the front seat upholstery. The three-spoke steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary gauges for oil and coolant temperature. Additional gauges for oil pressure and fuel level are mounted in the center of the dashboard along with an analog clock. The six-digit odometer shows 102k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. The analog clock does not work. The 2.0-liter B20 inline-four was rebuilt under current ownership and is equipped with a Type D camshaft, an aluminum cam gear, Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, a 123ignition distributor, an aftermarket valve cover, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. At the time of rebuild, the fuel injectors, spark plugs and wires, water pump, fuel pump, and motor mounts were also replaced. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with a Laycock de Normanville electric overdrive. The undercarriage was stripped, sealed, and repainted, and various underside components were powder coated during the recent refurbishment. The driveshaft bearing, universal joints, axle bearings, and rear differential pinion seal were also replaced at that time. The vehicle does not have a title and is being sold on its Alberta registration, which serves as the ownership document in Alberta, Canada. The registration document carries an “Antique Vehicle” notation.
