This 1956 MG MGA roadster is said to have been sold new in Montreal, Quebec, and it has remained in Canada with the same family since 1965 and was refurbished in Calgary, Alberta from 2005 to 2006. Work involved repainting the body red and upholstering the cabin in red vinyl. Power is provided by a 1.5-liter inline-four fitted with dual SU carburetors, and shifting is through a four-speed manual gearbox. Additional equipment includes chrome-finished 15″ wire wheels, a black soft top, side curtains, bucket seats, and Jaeger instrumentation. The seller notes that the master cylinder for the clutch and braking system was replaced in preparation for the sale. This MGA is now offered in Canada by the seller on behalf of the current owner with refurbishment photos, service records, MGA literature, and Alberta registration. The MGA debuted at the Frankfurt motor show in September 1955, and this 1956-built example was repainted red during the aforementioned refurbishment, which involved rust repair and bodywork. Chrome accents the bumpers, grille, trim, and fuel cap. A black canvas soft top and side curtains are included in the sale and pictured in the gallery below. Scratches in the paint and glass, pitting in the chrome, and other imperfections are detailed in the seller’s video. Chrome 15″ knock-off wire wheels wear two-eared spinners and are mounted with 165/80 Nexen tires with 2005 date codes, and a spare is stored in the trunk. An independent front suspension was fitted as standard equipment, and braking is provided by four-wheel drums. The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in red vinyl along with a color-coordinated dashboard, center armrest, and door panels. Black carpeting lines the floors, and the dashboard houses controls for the heater as well as a radio blanking plate. The banjo-style steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature. A fuel-level gauge is located to the right side of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 8k miles; true mileage is unknown. The 1.5-liter 15GB inline-four is fed by dual SU carburetors and has a red-painted valve cover. The oil was changed in December 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. The seller reports that the clutch master cylinder was replaced in December 2023. Video footage and additional photos of the underside are presented below. Images from the refurbishment are viewable in the gallery. The car number stamped on the chassis plate shown above reads HDK43/16006, whereas the registration paperwork lists a truncated vehicle identification number of 16006. The car does not have a title and is being sold on its Alberta registration, which serves as the ownership document in Alberta, Canada. The car’s registration expired in 2018. Filed under: mg, mg a
