1927 Chris-Craft

This 1927 Chris-Craft Cadet is a 22′ mahogany triple-cockpit runabout which was originally used for commercial excursions in New Jersey. The current owner, a carpenter and veteran wooden boat restorer, acquired the boat in 1995 and subsequently performed a two-year restoration. It was then used as a pleasure cruiser for several weeks each summer on Lake Leelanau until 2012. The Chevrolet 350ci V8 was rebuilt in 2013 and has since run five break-in hours. This Chris-Craft has not been in the water since 2013, and it has been stored on the included custom-made Eagle trailer when not in use. The seller is a longtime friend of the current owner, with whom he restores vintage Saabs. A carb rebuild was performed in preparation for this auction, and the sale includes a mooring cover, vintage Chris-Craft flags, records, and a clean Michigan title. Per the seller, the boat retains original mahogany upper planking and trim throughout. A 5200 bottom was installed during the restoration and uses modern adhesives and sealants in lieu of the original epoxies. The bottom is finished in green anti-fouling paint separated from the wood finish upper-surfaces by a white boundary layer. The boat carries the name Lizzy across the transom, and a set of original Chris-Craft deck and bow flags are included. The custom mooring cover is pictured above, which protects most of the areas above the waterline. The included Eagle trailer was ordered new in 1995 without roller, and custom bunks were fitted and tailored to cradle this specific boat. New alloy wheels and new tires were fitted in preparation for sale. The forward cockpit affords three abreast seating, with a small wood-rimmed steering wheel located on the port side. The seating surfaces are upholstered in green leatherette and show light signs of use at the top. The Chris-Craft tachometer has been restored. The boat has not been in the water since 2013, when it was run for five hours on Whitmore Lake near Ann Arbor, Michigan following the engine rebuild. The aft passenger compartment is positioned to the rear of the engine compartment and is accessed using a pair of Chris-Craft steps secured to the upper planking. Originally powered by an 80 horsepower Chrysler F-head inline-six, the boat was repowered in the 1970s with a Chevrolet 350ci V8 converted for marine use by Flagship. In 2013 the engine was overhauled with new heads, a new camshaft, machined crank, new pistons, rods, bearings, seals, and oil pump. Pertronix electronic ignition was also added, and a tune-up performed at that time consisted of rebuilding the distributor and adding a new cap, rotor, and plug wires. In preparation for sale, the 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor was rebuilt and a new battery was fitted. Receipts are included from the 1995-1997 restoration and the overhaul of the engine. Documentation includes copies of the original Boat Equipment Record, a Chris-Craft pre-shipping checklist dated July 21, 1927, and photos of the boat prior to restoration.
