1937 Ford Pickup 1937-1939

This 1937 Ford 1½-ton truck was refurbished under previous ownership and fitted with a period Morrison Brothers oil tanker body before it was purchased by the selling dealer out of Ohio in 2022. The truck is finished in red with a Shell Oil livery over black vinyl upholstery, and power comes from a replacement 221ci flathead V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include dual single-barrel carburetors atop an Offenhauser intake manifold as well as chrome coolant pipes, a 12-volt electric system with an alternator, an electric fuel pump, dual exhaust, a dually rear axle, driving lamps, and VDO auxiliary gauges. Work performed in October 2022 reportedly included services of the brake and electrical systems along with the installation of rear inner tire inner tubes. This Ford oil tanker is now offered with a clean Missouri title. The body is finished in red with black fenders, and the black and yellow Shell Oil livery was reportedly added by sign painter Phil Jarvis. The Morrison Brothers oil tanker body is mounted on a wood cradle and features three compartments, each with its own top intake port and rear-mounted discharge valve. Additional details include black front and rear bumpers, yellow driving lamps, a driver-side mirror, and side storage accessed by drop-side panels. The rear two-door cargo area is subdivided into three compartments and houses a jerry can. Paint chips on the hood and cracks in the finish of the cab are noted by the selling dealer. The body-color steel wheels are mounted with 7.00–20 Denman RNS bias-ply tires. Replacement rear inner tire inner tubes were reportedly installed in October 2020. The truck features a front transverse leaf spring and a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Replacement rear axle seals were installed in October 2020, and the four-wheel drum brakes were serviced with the installation of rear linings. The cabin features a bench seat trimmed in black vinyl with a matching headliner and door panels. Auxiliary ignition and fuel pump switches are mounted to the left of the steering column. The driver’s door window is said to have difficulty rolling down, and the brake pedal squeaks. The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a painted steel dash housing a 100-mph speedometer and a combination gauge with readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and water temperature. A quartet of VDO auxiliary gauges is mounted in the glovebox. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
