1942 Jeep SJ Wagoneer

This custom woodie wagon was assembled by Nickels Automotive Woodworking using the cab and fenders from a 1942 Ford pickup along with maple wood paneling atop the chassis of a 1970 Jeep Wagoneer. The wood bodywork is complemented by maroon paint and a brown vinyl roof covering, and power is supplied by a 350ci Dauntless V8 linked with a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. On the inside, three rows of bench seats are trimmed in tan vinyl and accompanied by an air conditioning system as well as a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo. Further equipment includes body-color 16″ steel wheels, whitewall tires, power-assisted front disc brakes, and power steering. Acquired by the seller in 2021, this custom woodie wagon is now offered with build photos, a Woodie Times magazine feature, a picnic set, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name listing it as a 1942 Ford. The 1942 Ford pickup cab and fenders were modified and fitted with maple wood paneling by Nickels Automotive Woodworking of Traverse City, Michigan, as part of the build before being mounted to a chassis sourced from a 1970 Jeep Wagoneer. The metal portions of the body are finished in maroon, and additional exterior details include a brown vinyl roof covering, yellow driving lights, black steel running boards, chrome bumpers, a split tailgate, and a receiver hitch. Body-color 16″ steel wheels wear Ford-branded chrome hubcaps and are mounted with whitewall tires. The truck is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs paired with rear drums. The cabin features three rows of bench seats upholstered in tan vinyl along with color-coordinated carpets. The wood door and side panels are complemented by a slatted-wood ceiling. Additional appointments include air conditioning, a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo, and a removable front armrest with cupholders and storage. The two-spoke steering wheel fronts billet instrument surround housing a Dolphin 140-mph speedometer and a combination gauge with readouts for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. A Sunpro Super Tach II is mounted atop the dash and a Dolphin clock is installed within the glove compartment door, though they are both inoperative. A replacement Sunpro tachometer will accompany the car. The digital odometer shows 15k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The Buick-based 350ci Dauntless V8 was retained from the 1970 Jeep Wagoneer. Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels via a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The truck is titled using the serial number 186894856 shown above, which is consistent with a 1942 Ford equipped with a V8 engine.
