This 1944 Indian Chief 340B is said to have been originally used by the US military and features a reproduction sidecar mounted on a period frame. The bike reportedly underwent a mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment in 2010 before being acquired in 2012 by the seller, who has primarily kept it on display with a military vehicle and aircraft collection. Power is provided by a 74ci V-twin paired with a three-speed transmission, and the bike is finished in gloss olive green with white military-style graphics. Features include a left-side hand shifter, a leaf-spring fork, plunger shocks, a sprung solo saddle, a rear luggage rack, leather saddlebags, a rifle scabbard, a Thompson submachine gun, a headlight, and a taillight. The single-seat sidecar is equipped with a windscreen, leaf-spring suspension, a tonneau cover, and a running light. This Indian 340B sidecar rig is offered with an operations and maintenance booklet reprint and transferable New York registration in the seller’s name. The two-piece fuel tank and fenders are finished in gloss olive green with white military-style graphics. The bike features leather saddle bags, a sprung solo seat, footboards, a center stand, and a black luggage rack atop the rear fender as well as a leather rifle scabbard with a Thompson .45-caliber submachine gun that is said to have a welded magazine and is not functional. The reproduction sidecar body is said to have been fabricated under previous ownership based on a 1940s Indian model, and it is finished in gloss green and mounted on a period frame. It is fitted with a clear plastic windscreen, a black vinyl apron, a black vinyl seat cover, and bright body trim. Additional equipment includes leaf-spring suspension, an 18″ wire-spoke wheel, a tonneau cover, and a fender with matching headdress running light. The black vinyl interior features a single seat with matching upholstered side panels and padded armrests. Black 18″ rims are laced to hubs with overhauled drum brakes at both ends. The seller mounted Coker 4.50″ tires and tubes on all three wheels. Suspension is provided by a leaf-spring trailing-link fork as well as a pair of frame-mounted plunger shocks. The black handlebar is equipped with a spark-advance control on the left, a twist-grip throttle on the right, and a horn. The chrome tank-top dash panel is situated between black filler caps for gasoline and oil and contains a 175-mph speedometer, a keyed ignition switch, and an ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 3k Miles, approximately 20 of which were ridden by the seller. True mileage is unknown. The 74ci flathead V-twin breathes through an M-series Linkert carburetor with a black-finished air-filter cover as well as a black two-into-one exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a three-speed transmission with a hand shifter on the left as well as a drive chain. The bike is registered in the state of New York by the number 344494 stamped on the frame.
