This 1963 Daimler Ferret Mark 1/2 armored scout car was manufactured for use by the British military and is powered by a 4.3-liter Rolls-Royce B60 inline-six linked to a five-speed semi-automatic transmission driving all four wheels via an H-shaped differential and individual prop shafts. The vehicle was imported into the US before being acquired by the seller in 2023, and subsequent service reportedly involved cleaning the fuel tank, overhauling the carburetor, retrimming the seats in black vinyl, and repainting the body in black and green camouflage. Equipment includes periscope hatches, headlights and taillights, storage compartments, 16″ steel wheels, and a fiberglass replica of a machine gun. This Daimler Ferret was acquired by the current owner in 2023 and is now offered at no reserve with a user handbook, spare parts, and a New Jersey title in the seller’s name. The Ferret is constructed from welded steel plates between 6mm and 16mm thick. The Mark 1/2 version was equipped with an armored roof with a hatch, and this example was repainted in black and green camouflage under current ownership. Equipment includes a fiberglass replica of a Browning M1919 machine gun, non-functioning grenade launching tubes, amber headlights, taillights, dual side mirrors, and storage compartments mounted to the wheel arches and on the right bodyside panel. A jerry can, fire extinguisher, ax, and shovel are secured to the body panels. Eight-lug 16″ steel wheels wear 9.00-series Dunlop Trakgrip tires, and a matching spare is mounted to the left side. The vehicle rides on an independent suspension with coil springs and hydraulic dampers all around. The seller notes cracks in the tire sidewalls. The Mark 1 Ferret was set up for a three-man crew with the driver positioned low at the front of the vehicle. The steering wheel angles downward, and the driver’s view is through a set of vision blocks and a periscope. The driver’s seat and aft bench have been reupholstered in black vinyl, and controls include conventional throttle and brake pedals, with a gearbox actuator pedal at the left of the pedal box. Instrumentation includes a 50-mph speedometer, a 4k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The odometer displays 2k miles, approximately 250 of which were added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown. The fuel gauge does not work. Power is provided by a 4.3-liter Rolls-Royce B60 inline-six and is sent to all four wheels via a five-speed epicyclic semi-automatic transmission and an H-type center differential. Service under current ownership is said to have included overhauling the carburetor, cleaning and re-sealing the fuel tank, and replacing the batteries. The seller notes that first gear does not work and that the starter occasionally does not engage. Additional underside photos can be viewed in the gallery below. A user handbook will accompany the vehicle along with an assortment of spare parts. The current New Jersey title carries a “Mileage Exceeds the Mechanical Limits” notation.
