This 1971 BMW 2000tii is a French-market Touring model that was purchased by the seller on BaT in November 2014. Now located in southern California, the car is described as a straight and honest example that is largely unmodified aside from a non-matching numbers engine block, E21 5-speed manual upgrade, FPS Turbo wheels, and Petri steering wheel. Described as a clean, quick and dependable cruiser, the car retains factory Kugelfischer injection and will be sold with a California title in the name of the seller’s company. Body panels are said to be straight, and exterior surfaces were repainted in factory Colorado Orange several years ago. The matching original finish is said to remain in the engine bay, door jambs, and rear hatch opening. Overall cosmetics are described as solid driver quality, with noted flaws including dings in the driver’s door jamb, a small paint crack near a left wheel arch, and a handful of stone chips in the nose. The seller asserts that no evidence of rust was found upon careful inspection on a lift, and has provided several rocker, valance, and under-door photos. Notable trim features include French-market taillights with amber upper sections along with the absence of side marker lights or bumper guards. Brightwork, rubber, and badging were described as good by the 2014 seller and confirmed by the current owner, though occasional dings and light pitting are visible in chrome trim. Period 13″ FPS Turbo wheels show some finish and curb damage as detailed in the photos below. Hankook radials are from 2006 but were reportedly mounted just prior to the 2014 sale. A leather-wrapped Petri steering wheel has replaced the factory item, while other cabin appointments are said to remain original. All are reportedly holding up well aside from a crack in the two-piece dash and occasional wear spots in the salt-and-pepper carpeting. Gauges, lights, and switches are said to work as they should. The odometer currently shows just under 15k kilometers and is assumed by the seller to have rolled over or be otherwise inaccurate. A tii dash clock is present, and a period tri-band radio remains mounted in the center stack. Power is from a 2.0-liter M10 four that retains factory Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection and reportedly uses a correct but non-numbers matching tii block. The engine bay is said to retain original paint and no snorkel is present in the radiator support panel. Shifting is via a 5-speed manual transmission sourced from an E21 3-Series, and Bilstein shocks are mounted at all four corners. Details of prior work are largely unknown, though the previous seller referred to the car as mechanically sorted aside from a noisy differential input bearing, which the current caretaker has been unable to detect. Approximately 2,500 kilometers have been added since the 2014 purchase, and no mechanical work is said to have taken place during that time. The car is said to run and drive well, especially with the additional gear provided by the 5-speed transmission.
