1950 Mercury Eight Green OM-72B

This 1950 cury Eight sedan is a good example of the appearance and appeal of  cars manufactured in the late 1940s and early 1950s.  The exterior has a stock appearance with a classic comfortable interior and a minimum of mechanical upgrades to make the car more dependable and facilitate routine maintenance.  The car was subjected to a frame off restoration completed in 2019.  The current milage is 2078 and the car has been driven on regular intervals since completion of the restoration.  More important, it has won numerous awards at local car shows. 

            The car was finished with a high quality llic base coat-clear coat paint.  The metallic paint calls attention to the car fitted with fender skirts.  All glass was replaced except for the rear window.  All chrome parts were replated and stainless steel trim was polished.  The tires are n Classic bias profile radials mounted on steel wheels with full dog dish cury hubcaps.  

            The interior is finished with a camel colored vinyl fabric accented with green  piping.  The headliner is a 1950 cury replacement.  The dash remains in its original vertical ribbed state with the original speedometer and gauges.  The original black steering wheel, horn ring and center cap are vintage cury.  The radio was converted to an AM-FM stereo and mounted in its original case with auxiliary speakers in the trunk.  The light brown carpeting complements the vinyl upholstery. 

            The engine is a replacement and rebuilt 255 Ci flathead V8, with the original rebuilt 2-barrel carburetor, that starts promptly and runs smoothly.  The 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive shifts smoothly.  A dual exhaust system and y’s mufflers produce the sound of the 1950s.  The electrical system was converted to 12 volts and the generator replaced with an alternator.  A dual master cylinder and 4-wheel drum brakes provide reliable stopping power.  An electric fuel pump was installed to facilitate starting during cold weather.  The rear suspension was dropped 3 inches to enhance the  car’s profile. 

            The trunk contains a rubber mat embossed with the cury emblem and a spare white side wall tire.  The underside remains clean with the supporting structure treated to limit rust that can be documented in restoration photos.
