This 1936 Ford Model 68 was refurbished and modified by the seller’s father during the late 1990s and early 2000s, including installation of an overbored Simca-built 239ci flathead V8. Further additions include the installation of four Stromberg carburetors, Offenhauser cylinder heads, Red’s exhaust headers, a Lincoln three-speed manual transmission, updated brakes, and fresh paint. This three-window Ford is now offered by the son of the current owner with a clean Minnesota title in the current owner’s name. The Model 68 featured redesigned vertical bars in the chrome grille as well as dual horns concealed behind chrome bezels and restyled rear fenders for the 1936 model year. Accented with green pinstriping, this example wears a black finish that was applied during the refurbishment performed by the current owner. Photos of the finish in the gallery below include close-ups of the trim, hardware, rumble seat, and noted imperfections. The bumpers, driver-side mirror, running boards, and grille are finished in chrome. The 15″ steel wheels wear polished hubcaps and Goodyear Eagle tires fitted by the current owner. The front suspension features a 2″ drop, and hydraulic front and rear brakes reportedly were sourced from a 1939 Lincoln. The interior is trimmed in tan cloth with color-coordinated rubber floor coverings, while the rumble seat is upholstered in brown vinyl. A woodgrain finish is painted on the metal dash and the tops of the door panels. The three-speed shifter features a piston-style knob. The car retains a factory 100-mph speedometer, which is bordered by gauges monitoring oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and charge status. A circular radio dial is present at the center of the dash, beneath which is mounted a Stewart Warner tachometer. Just over 8k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, and approximately 2,500 reportedly were added under current ownership. The original 6-volt tube radio and heater assembly is included in the sale according to the seller. The Simca-built 239ci flathead V8 is said to have been overbored .010″ during the refurbishment. Four Stromberg 97 downdraft carburetors with chrome filter housings are fitted atop an aluminum intake manifold. Further additions include Arias pistons, CP-Carrillo H-beam connecting rods, a forged crankshaft, Offenhauser cylinder heads, exhaust headers from Red’s Headers, MSD ignition, and more. Power is distributed through a three-speed synchronized manual transmission sourced from a 1939 Lincoln according to the seller. Additional photos of the underside are included in the gallery, and walk-around videos are presented below. A video clip of the engine bay is viewable here. A video of the current owner’s last run at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2004 is shown below and accompanied by engine startup demonstrations. https://youtu.be/IuZtBX32UW8 https://youtu.be/zRNy9-8yBEU https://youtu.be/wnonQdGZ_XQ
