Interest in International’s Scout is on the rise, in part because of a general interest in vintage 4×4 SUVs in general, but no doubt also inspired by the all-new Scout SUV that’s about to hit the market. If you were interested in an example of the Scout II, the later, larger evolution of the original, this ’74 model, complete with the Traveltop lid, would be worth a look. The owner says he’s had it for more than 20 years and claims the Colorado-sourced truck was never exposed to road salt. That owner is the one who had the restoration done, and the result is a clean, simple Scout II that remains mostly stock, save for a mild lift and upsized wheels and tires. The undercarriage photos show a very clean frame and floor, and the interior is similarly simple and clean. This one even has the 345-cu.in. V-8 (the largest offered in a Scout) and it comes with the parts to swap to a manual transmission. We could see this with a set of wide steel wheels for that period-tough look. – TM
This 1974 International Scout II Traveltop 4×4 “has been body-off restored over an eight-year period, with attention paid to detail inside and out,” the seller states. “It has a powder-coated frame, a slight lift, and new paint, chrome, interior, dual exhaust, chrome wheels, and tires. The 50,000-original-miles engine was refreshed.”
The SUV “is a Colorado vehicle that I’ve owned for over 20 years, and it has never seen salty roads,” he continues. “Its restoration turned out so nice that the Scout II has only been used for shows, where it receives an exceptional amount of attention and favorable comments. It’s always a crowd magnet and an award winner.”
The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Michigan title in his wife’s name. This restored 1974 International Scout II Traveltop 4×4 has been mildly modified for higher style and increased comfort and convenience.
