This 1928 Indian Scout 45 was acquired by the selling dealer following a refurbishment performed circa 2014 by John Eagles of Orange County, California, which included repainting the bike in black with red and gold accents, sealing the fuel tank, and replacing the wiring harness as well as rebuilding the 45ci V-twin, hand-shifted three-speed transmission, foot-actuated clutch, gear primary drive, Schebler carburetor, and Splitdorf generator and magneto. Additional equipment includes a brown leather Mesinger solo saddle, a headlight, a taillight, a Klaxon horn, a leaf-spring fork, a front drum brake, a rear external band brake, 18″ wire-spoke wheels, Indian-script tires, and a two-into-one exhaust system with a fishtail muffler. Service in August 2023 included adjusting the idle, chain, and brake lever, lubricating the control cables and pivot points, and changing the oil. This Series 101 Scout is now offered with refurbishment records, a yellow-on-blue 1928 California license plate, removed components, and a clean California title. The bike was refinished in black over a matching double-cradle frame during the refurbishment, and it features a one-piece fuel/oil tank with red side panels, gold hand-painted Indian script and stripes, and a GTL epoxy liner. Features include a brown leather Mesinger solo saddle, a valanced front fender, a headlight, a taillight, a Klaxon horn, a toolbox, folding footboards, and both rear and side stands. Drop-center rims finished in black were mounted with 4.00×18″ Coker Indian-script tires during the refurbishment. Suspension is provided by a triple-stem leaf-spring fork as well as dual springs under the hinged seat. Braking comes from an internal expanding drum up front and an external contracting band acting on the rear hub. The selling dealer states that pivot points were lubricated in preparation for the sale. The black-finished handlebar carries a twist-grip spark-advance on the left along with a twist-grip throttle and front brake lever on the right, and the control cables were reportedly lubricated in preparation for the sale. A dash panel mounted on an extension of the steering stem houses an ammeter, a headlight switch, and a domed dash light. The six-volt electrical system is connected by a reproduction cloth wiring harness. The bike is not equipped with an odometer, therefore true mileage is unknown. The 45ci V-twin produced 18 horsepower when new, and it was rebuilt during the refurbishment along with the Schebler DLX51 carburetor, the Splitdorf S2 magneto, and the Splitdorf DU-7 generator. Additional features include a total-loss oiling system and a two-into-one exhaust system with polished head pipes and a black fishtail muffler. The selling dealer states that the idle was adjusted and the oil was changed in preparation for the sale. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a gear primary drive, a rebuilt multi-plate wet clutch actuated by a heel/toe foot lever, and a rebuilt hand-shifted three-speed transmission as well as a right-side drive chain that was adjusted in preparation for the sale. A sprocket attached to the wheel spokes on the left drives a Corbin speedometer that is included. The bike is accompanied by an engine guard, an Indian-branded Corbin speedometer, a yellow-on-blue 1928 California license plate, a rearview mirror, and refurbishment records. The bike is titled using the number DGP1723, which is stamped on the engine case and corresponds to a 1928 45ci Series 101 Scout.
