This 1935 Indian Dispatch Tow is an unusual factory-built 3-wheeled motorcycle powered by its original 45ci V-twin coupled to a 3-speed hand-shifted transmission. The bike was reportedly restored in the 1990s by a museum located in the Hamptons on Long Island, New York, where it was subsequently displayed as well as occasionally ridden. Purchased by the seller in 2013, it was recommissioned by a marque specialist in Florida and has since been ridden an estimated 50 miles. Recent service included an oil change and battery replacement. This Indian won its class at the Quail Motorsports Gathering in 2017 and is being sold to create space in a growing collection. It is offered with a clean Florida title in the seller’s name. The Dispatch Tow was designed as a service vehicle primarily for auto dealerships and repair shops, where a single employee could pick up or deliver a car for servicing by attaching the bike to the bumper and thereby have a vehicle for the return trip. This example was reportedly restored for a museum in the 1990s and is finished in blue with an Indian head tank decal and gold pin striping. Indian motorcycles of the period featured a left-hand throttle and right-hand shift lever, though many including this example were converted for ease of operation. Simple amenities include a sprung leather seat and Indian grips on the painted handlebars. No speedometer is equipped, but the seller estimates 50 miles have been added under his ownership. The rear box is constructed of sheet metal over a wood frame and designed to offer storage for tools. The lid was upholstered for use by the occasional passenger. The fork-mounted folding tow bar could clamp to an automobile bumper for transport to and from a service location. Detailed photos are provided to show wiring, plumbing, and finishes throughout. The matching-numbers 45ci V-twin is paired with a 3-speed transmission. The clutch is operated by the left foot and gear selection by the left hand. The motorcycle received an oil change and a new battery in 2017, and the seller will provide service records from his 6-year ownership.
