This 1935 Hacker-Craft runabout is a 19′ wooden triple-cockpit runabout that is powered by an inboard 283ci Chris-Craft V8 turning a single prop through a Velvet Drive transmission with forward and reverse. The boat is said to have been used at a Connecticut lake until being stored in a barn in the late 1950s, and was acquired by the seller in 2003. Subsequent refurbishment included installation of a replacement cedar plank bottom, decking, red vinyl upholstery, and Stewart-Warner instruments. The current engine was fitted in 2019 and reportedly winterized for 2020, though it is said to require further sorting. This Hacker-Craft is offered at no reserve with a single-axle Searra trailer and New Hampshire registration. The wood hull measures 19′ in length and is varnished above the waterline, with red paint applied below. Replacement mahogany decking was fitted in 2004 along with 5200-bedded cedar bottom planks excluding those along the keel, spar, and chine. Details include a split windscreen and replated hardware as well as a bright cutwater, gunwale edging, rub strips, and transom corners. Twin cockpits are separated by a bulkhead up front, while a third is located behind the the engine compartment at the stern. All three compartments were reupholstered with red vinyl during the seller’s ownership. The three-spoke steering wheel features a throttle lever in its hub and sits ahead of a wood dashboard. A central instrument panel houses a replacement Stewart Warner tachometer flanked by matching instruments including two temperature gauges, an oil pressure gauge, and an ammeter. One of the temperature gauges is inoperative, as is the fuel gauge mounted to the underside of the dash. Forward and reverse are selected with the floor lever. The inboard 283ci Chris-Craft/GM V8 is said to have been rebuilt by the seller with an RV camshaft and roller lifters prior to installation in 2019. Winterization was performed at the close of the 2020 season. The seller states that the engine stalls under load and exhibits low intake vacuum pressure and uniform low compression believed to indicate a valve timing problem. Dual exhausts exit through the hull above the waterline. A Velvet Drive transmission turns a single prop with a 12º blade pitch, which the seller notes will need to be tested and likely replaced with a more appropriate pitch. The boat rides on a Searra single-axle trailer with drum brakes, a wheeled tongue jack, carpeted bunks and guide-ons, and a spare wheel. The sale includes a fitted vinyl mooring cover that extends to the water line. Service records for the 2004 refurbishment are pictured in the gallery below.
