This 1936 Packard Super Eight is a Series 1404 model 959 coupe roadster that was sold new in Canada by the Packard Alberta Company. It was imported to the US under previous ownership and underwent a refurbishment approximately 30 years ago before being purchased by the current owner out of Washington State in 2014. The car is finished in burgundy over red leather upholstery, and power comes from a 384ci straight-eight linked with a three-speed transmission with overdrive. Features include chrome wire wheels, a tan soft top, a rumble seat, a fold-down luggage rack, dual golf bag doors, running boards, dual side-mount spare wheels, a driver-side spotlight, a cormorant hood ornament, a heater, and an AM radio. This 14th Series Packard is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a reproduction owner’s information booklet and a clean Missouri title in the owner’s name. The body is said to have been repainted in its current burgundy in the 1990s. Features include polished bumpers, a fold-down luggage rack, dual golf bag doors, running boards, a driver-side spotlight, chrome headlight buckets, and a cormorant hood ornament. The chrome wire wheels are mounted with radial wide whitewall tires that were reportedly installed in 2013. Matching spare wheels housed in body-color hard covers are located on both front fenders. The Series 1404 rode on a 139″ wheelbase and featured semi-elliptical leaf springs at all four corners as well as a Bijur chassis lubrication system. Stopping power is provided by mechanical drums at each wheel. The tan soft top features a glass rear window and can be seen raised in the gallery. The cabin features a split bench seat trimmed in red leather along with matching door panels and tan carpets. Features include a painted woodgrain dash, an AM radio, a heater, and wood door trim. The three-spoke steering wheel fronts an instrument panel housing a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 93k miles, 350 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The rumble bench seat is trimmed in matching red leather and folds away behind the cabin. The 384ci straight-eight was factory rated at 150 horsepower. An oil change was last performed in 2021. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The chassis tag lists the series as well as the vehicle number along with the original selling dealer and delivery date. The VIN on the title is listed as “14TH959239”.
