Make: Riley
Year: 1936

This custom Riley roadster was built several decades ago and rides on a frame sourced from a 1936 Adelphi saloon. Following its completion, the car is said to have been driven in the 1,000-mile Colorado Grand several times between 1994 and 2000 as well as in various vintage racing events. The alloy bodywork is finished in green and features a boattail design with a louvered hood and rocker panels, a driver’s headrest fairing, and cycle fenders. Power comes from a 2,443cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes dual SU carburetors, Brooklands-style windscreens, bomber-style seats, 16” wire wheels, and friction dampers. Purchased by the current owner in 2024, this Riley Special is now offered on dealer consignment in Texas with removable seat cushions and a Kansas title. The alloy bodywork is finished in green and features a louvered hood and rocker panels, a boattail rear end, a driver’s headrest fairing, cycle fenders, and a single door on the right side. Additional details include Brooklands-style windscreens, CAV headlights, leather hood straps, an external battery cutoff switch, #21 roundels, and a Le Mans-style fuel filler. A panoramic right-side mirror is mounted above a cowl fairing that houses a convex mirror. Paint chips and blemishes around the car can be viewed in the image gallery below. Black 16” knock-off wire wheels are retained with two-eared spinners and mounted with 6.00” Englebert Competition P tires. The car rides on leaf springs with friction dampers at all four corners, and braking is handled by drums all around. The right-hand-drive cockpit is constructed from bare aluminum and houses bomber-style seats with beige cushions and Simpson latch-and-link lap harnesses. The driver’s headrest is trimmed in brown leather. The four-spoke steering wheel fronts an engine-turned dashboard fascia housing a mixed set of instruments including a Smiths 160-mph speedometer, a Jaeger tachometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 1,400 miles, approximately 100 of which have been added under current ownership. The 2,443cc inline-four features overhead valves and dual SU carburetors. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. An extra set of seat cushions will accompany the car along with a spare wheel and tire. The Kansas title is noted as a replacement and carries an Antique brand.
