This 1939 Indian Four was acquired by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation in 1994 and incorporated into the IMS Museum collection, where it was displayed on its main display floor as well as a part of the museum’s Basement Collection tour. The motorcycle is finished in red with a black tubular steel frame, and power comes from a 77ci air-cooled inline-four paired with a three-speed hand-shifted transmission. Equipment includes a leaf-spring fork, a sprung solo saddle, a four-into-one exhaust system, drum brakes, wire-spoke wheels, a handlebar-mounted horn, a luggage rack, and rider footboards. Service performed by IMS Museum staff in preparation for the sale included the installation of a replacement seat and battery case as well as a cleaning of the carburetor. This Indian Four is offered by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Foundation with a clean Indiana title. The motorcycle is finished in red with gold pinstriping and Indian graphics over a black-painted tubular steel frame. Features include a handlebar-mounted horn, a luggage rack, rider footboards, and a chrome-trimmed headlight. Pitting on the brightwork can be seen in the gallery. Chrome rims are laced to hubs with drum brakes and are wrapped in 4.50–18 bias-ply tires that show cracking on the sidewalls. The bike features a leaf-spring fork and a rigid frame. The wide chrome handlebar is mounted ahead of a dash console that houses a 130-mph speedometer and an ammeter. The five-digit odometer shows 5,900 miles. Total mileage is unknown. The seller notes that holes drilled into the frame under prior ownership to attach seat springs have since been repaired. A reproduction saddle was fitted by the seller. The 77ci air-cooled inline-four is equipped with an oil pressure gauge along with a chrome four-into-one exhaust system. The carburetor was cleaned by IMS Museum staff in preparation for the sale. It is unknown when the engine was last run prior to 2022, and further service is recommended prior to use. A hole in the exhaust can be viewed in the gallery. Engine stamping DCI-358 corresponds to the number listed on the title. Power is delivered to the rear wheel through a three-speed hand-shifted transmission and a drive chain.
