This 1939 Buick Century is one of 790 Model 66C convertible coupes produced for the model year. It underwent a refurbishment in the 1990s and was fitted with a replacement 320ci straight-eight and drum brakes sourced from a 1948 Buick Roadmaster before it was purchased by the seller in 2021. The car is finished in cream over burgundy leather upholstery, and equipment includes a three-speed manual transmission, 15″ painted steel wheels with whitewall tires, driving lights, a burgundy soft top, and rear jump seats. This Series 60 Century is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name. The Buick lineup was restyled for 1939 with a two-piece “waterfall grille” and larger windows. This example was repainted in cream during the 1990s refurbishment, and it features chrome bumpers with overriders, driving lamps, vented hood panels, a burgundy soft top, and a down-turned exhaust tip. The turn signals do not work. Red-painted steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings, and they are mounted with 7.00–15 Firestone Deluxe Champion bias-ply wide-whitewall tires. A matching spare wheel is stowed in the trunk. The Series 60 Century rode on a 126″ wheelbase and featured an independent front suspension and a live rear axle with coil springs at all four corners. Four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes sourced from a 1948 Buick Roadmaster were installed during the 1990s refurbishment. The cabin features a split bench seat and dual rear jump seats trimmed in burgundy leather along with color-matched door panels and carpets. Equipment includes a painted woodgrain dashboard, a locking glovebox, and an under-dash starter switch. The AM radio and clock do not work. The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and it frames a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for oil pressure, engine temperature, battery charge, and fuel level. A Sunpro temperature gauge is mounted below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 2,100 miles, approximately 200 of which were added under the seller’s ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The replacement 320ci straight-eight was sourced from a 1948 Buick Roadmaster, and it is said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. A replacement fuel tank was installed under previous ownership.
