This 1939 Packard 12 Formal Sedan is believed to be a largely original unrestored car with only 44,912 miles. It is one of an estimated 30 formal sedans built in 1939 out of 300 total V12 cars, and is powered by a 175 hp 473ci Packard V12 and a three-speed transmission with a column-mounted shifter. It is believed to have been been with the original owner until 1960, when it was sold to another family who had it for 56 years. The seller purchased it from the estate of the long term owner in August 2016, and has put 200 miles on it since. It was most recently serviced in March 2017 with an oil and filter change, a transmission oil change, a radiator flush with new coolant, and a brake adjustment. This Packard is being offered with the original owner’s manual and a clear Florida title. The formal sedan sat on a 134″ wheelbase, and the seller points out that while the padded top is believed to be original, the paint appears to have been refreshed by a prior owner. Although the finish shines well, the seller notes that there is some paint cracking on the sides of the hood and one small rust spot on the rear of the driver’s side running board. Options include a Packard Deluxe AM radio, dual side mounts, fog lights, and a rear mounted folding luggage rack. The interior upholstery and wood veneers are believed to be original, but some age related cracks in the steering wheel rim. The seller reportedly drove the car to the Florida Packard club meeting in fall 2016, where it was inspected by other marque experts and is believed to be in largely original condition. The speedometer needle does not drop back to zero when the car is stopped, while other gauges are said to function correctly. A rare Packard Deluxe AM Radio is visible below the dashboard. The rear seating area is accessed via rear-hinged suicide doors and appears virtually unused. Features include Alpaca carpeting, vanity mirrors, a floor mounted heating vent, jump seat, and a divider window. The 473ci V12 is original to the car and puts out 175 hp in stock tune. The engine and transmission oil was changed, and a coolant flush was performed along with a brake adjustment. A short video of the engine has been added by the seller to better illustrate the running condition.
