This 1940 Lincoln Continental is one of 350 cabriolets produced for the model year and underwent refurbishment work in the 1970s and again in the late 1980s. It was acquired by the current owner in 2015, and service in preparation for the sale included cleaning the spark plugs and fuel tank. Finished in blue over tan leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 292ci V12 paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a tan soft top and top boot, rear fender skirts, Lincoln-Zephyr wheel covers, whitewall tires, hydraulic drum brakes, a hood ornament, a rear-mounted spare tire carrier, and chrome bumpers with overriders. This Continental convertible is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with partial service records and a clean California title. The Continental was based on the Zephyr platform, and it was introduced for the 1940 model year. This example is finished in blue and fitted with a tan soft top and top boot. Details include a hood ornament, front vent windows, push-button door handles, rear fender skirts, chrome bumpers with overriders, and a rear-mounted spare tire carrier. The rear window and top panel are discolored, the windshield wipers do not work, and there are paint cracks on the right rear. The steel wheels wear Lincoln-Zephyr wheel covers and are mounted with whitewall tires. Stopping power is provided by hydraulically assisted four-wheel drums. The cabin features a split front bench and a solid rear bench trimmed in tan leather, which is complemented by coordinated carpets and a painted dashboard. Lincoln-Zephyr script adorns the dashboard and steering wheel. The left door release do not work. The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 110-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and an inoperative clock. The five-digit odometer shows 4,200 miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 292ci flathead V12 is said to have been overhauled under current ownership. The spark plugs, fuel tank, and fuel pump were cleaned in preparation for the sale. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the car intermittently slips out of second gear when decelerating. Partial service records will accompany the car.
