This 1948 Chrysler Town & Country convertible underwent a cosmetic refurbishment before it was purchased by the current owner in 2017. The car is finished in green with ash wood-framed mahogany veneer panels over green upholstery with gray cloth inserts, and power comes from a 323ci L-head inline-eight paired with a four-speed Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission. Features include a power-operated tan soft top, a driver-side spotlight, a retractable antenna, an AM radio, a clock, and a heater. Replacement tires were installed in September 2023. This New Yorker-series Town & Country was displayed in the “Wonders in Wood on Land & by Sea” exhibition at the Audrain Automobile Museum in Newport, Rhode Island, from March to June 2023, and it is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a set of uninstalled Firestone bias-ply whitewall tires and a Rhode Island registration. Delivered from the factory in Heather Green (4), the car was repainted under previous ownership. The ash wood-framed mahogany veneer panels were also refinished at that time, and equipment includes chrome bumpers, bright trim, a retractable antenna, a driver-side spotlight, and a power-operated tan soft top. The 15″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings and are mounted with Firestone Deluxe Champion bias-ply whitewall tires that were reportedly damaged in transit following its display at the Audrain Automobile Museum. A set of uninstalled Firestone bias-ply tires sourced from Coker Classic are included in the sale and can be seen in the gallery. The Town & Country featured an independent front suspension with coil springs as well as a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. Stopping power is provided by hydraulic drums at all four corners. The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in green with gray cloth inserts. Color-matched carpets line the floors, and features include a Comfort Master heater, an AM radio, a clock, and a locking glovebox. The green three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 110-mph speedometer as well as gauges for water temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 56k miles, approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 323.5ci L-head inline-eight features five main bearings and was factory rated at 135 horsepower. A recent oil change and a coolant service are noted by the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission. Photos of the car on display at the Audrain Automobile Museum can be seen in the gallery. The car does not have a title as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its registration.
