This 1948 Chrysler Town & Country convertible was purchased by the current owner in 1992 and subsequently refurbished over the ensuing two years. It is powered by a 323.5ci Spitfire inline-eight paired with a four-speed Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission and is finished in tan over maroon and tartan upholstery. Equipment includes a replacement power-operated tan soft top, chrome trim and bumpers, ash-framed mahogany exterior paneling, fog lights, fender-mounted spotlights, 15″ steel wheels, a split front bench, an AM radio, and a heater. This Town & Country convertible is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with the owner’s manual, a May 1994 issue of Cars & Parts magazine featuring the car, service records, and a clean California title in the current owner’s name. This convertible is one of 8,368 examples produced for the model year. The convertible bodywork sits on a New Yorker chassis with a 127.5″ wheelbase and is finished in Catalina Tan (9). Exterior equipment includes a chrome eggcrate grille, trim, and bumpers as well as ash-framed mahogany exterior paneling, a replacement power-operated tan soft top, fog lights, fender-mounted spotlights, and twin curved-stem side mirrors. The exterior woodwork was revarnished or replaced during the 1990s refurbishment. The 15″ steel wheels feature full chrome covers and were mounted with Firestone Deluxe Champions tires measuring 8.20-15 in 2019. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with coil springs as well as a live rear axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. The cabin was reupholstered under current ownership, with maroon vinyl over the front and rear benches, which are accented by tartan inserts and door panels. Interior amenities include split and folding front seatbacks, a locking glovebox, an electric clock, an AM radio, front vent windows, and a heater. The three-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 110-mph speedometer along with gauges for fuel level, amperage, oil pressure, and temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 83k miles miles, approximately 3k miles of which were added under current ownership. The 323.5ci Spitfire inline-eight features five main bearings and a single downdraft carburetor for a factory rating of 135 horsepower. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a column-shifted four-speed Fluid Drive semi-automatic transmission. Corrosion is noted underneath.
