This 1948 Jaguar Mark IV Drophead Coupe was completed on June 9, 1948 and distributed in the US through Hoffman Jaguar of New York. The car is reported to have undergone a refurbishment in the early 2000s, and it is finished in black with a tan soft top over red leather upholstery. Power is provided by a 3.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes dual SU carburetors, 18” knock-off wire wheels, Lucas PL headlights and driving lamps, and twin exhaust outlets. This Mark IV was acquired by the current owner in 2020 and is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer with a Production Record Trace Certificate, a tool kit, and a clean Illinois title. Finished from the factory in black, the car was repainted in the early 2000s. Details include a tan soft top, rear-hinged doors, semaphore turn signals, Lucas PL headlights and driving lamps, and twin polished exhaust outlets. Painted 18” knock-off wire wheels are mounted with Firestone-branded whitewall tires. The suspension features semi-elliptical leaf springs and lever-arm hydraulic shock absorbers at all four corners. The mechanical rod-actuated drum brakes were reportedly refreshed in 2009. The cabin houses red leather seats that are joined by color-coordinated door panels and carpets. A four-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a wood dashboard housing a suite of Smiths instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 5k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 56k miles, around 100 of which have been added during current ownership, though total mileage is unknown. Cracks are visible in the dash. The 3.5L-inline-six was factory rated at 125 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. According to the seller, the battery box was replaced in 2009, while the manifolds and cylinder head were resurfaced in the early 2010s. Fluid changes were performed in preparation for the sale. Engine stamping SL3254 is shown above. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission, and additional underbody images are provided in the gallery below. The Production Record Trace Certificate details factory colors as well as the chassis, engine, and body serial numbers. There is currently a lien on the car, and the current owner’s lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to the new owner.
