This 1949 MG TC is a “Home Market” example that was the subject of a body-off restoration completed prior to the seller’s acquisition in November 2018. It is finished in black over red leather and powered by a rebuilt 1,250cc XPAG inline-four equipped with larger carburetors from an MG TF. Shifting is via a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 19″ wire wheels, a beige soft top, running boards, dual side mirrors, and rear-hinged doors. This MG TC is now offered with refurbishment photos, a tool kit, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name. The body was removed from the frame and repainted black during the aforementioned restoration. Exterior details include a single fog lamp, running boards, rear-hinged doors, a single side mirror, a replacement beige soft top with side curtains, and a chrome luggage rack. The 19″ wire wheels are secured with knock-off spinners and are wrapped in Dunlop tires. A matching spare is mounted at the rear. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The suspension and brakes were overhauled during the restoration with replacement bearings, kingpins, and brake components. The cabin features red leather upholstery on the seats and door panels. Amenities include door pockets and a passenger grab handle. The banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of a wood dashboard. Jaeger instrumentation includes a tachometer with an inset analog clock as well as a speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 133 miles, which is the mileage driven since completion of the restoration. The rebuilt 1,250cc inline-four is fed by dual SU carburetors, reportedly sourced from a MG TF, and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Service including an oil and filter change and lubricating the chassis was performed in August 2024 in preparation for the sale. Additional underside images are provided in the gallery below. Additional photos taken during the refurbishment process can be viewed in the gallery. The VIN recorded on the title combines the car number and engine number.
