1953 Buick Super

This 1953 Buick Super is one of 1,830 wood-sided Estate Wagon examples produced for the model year. It was purchased by a member of the current owner’s family in 1991 and inherited by the owner in 2024. The car is finished in white over blue and white upholstery, and power comes from a Fireball 322ci V8 paired with a Dynaflow automatic transmission. Features include power steering, power-assisted brakes, chrome wire wheels, a heater, and an AM radio with updated functionality. This Series 50 Super woodie wagon is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with transferable New York registration. The wood-bodied Model 59 Super Estate Wagon was built for Buick by the Ionia Manufacturing Company of Michigan. Delivered from the factory in Majestic White (74), this example is said to have had its wood body panels refurbished before the car was repainted. Equipment includes chrome bumpers, fender-mounted Ventiports, dual sideview mirrors, Sweepspear body-side trim, reverse lights, and a clamshell tailgate. Chrome-finished wire wheels are mounted with bias-ply whitewall tires. The car was equipped from the factory with power-assisted steering, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The interior features two-tone blue and white upholstery that trims the bench seats as well as the door panels. Gray carpeting covers the floors, and additional equipment includes a heater, a clock, wood headliner trim, a rear robe cord, a fold-down rear bench seat, and a dark blue rubber mat over the rear cargo floor. The Buick Sonomatic AM radio’s internals reportedly have been updated to play FM frequencies as well as Parrot hands-free Bluetooth receiver. A toggle switch for an electric fuel primer has been added beneath the dashboard. The banjo-style steering wheel features a chrome horn ring, and it fronts a 110-mph speedometer, auxiliary gauges, and a clock on the opposite side of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 6,500 miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 322ci Fireball V8 was new for 1953, and it features five main bearings. Output was factory rated at 164 horsepower. The engine is said to have been rebuilt approximately 1k miles ago, and an oil change was performed in early 2024. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a Dynaflow two-speed automatic transmission with two turbines in the torque converter. The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its New York registration.
