This 1954 Allard J2X is said to be one of nine cars from the manufacturer imported to Canada when new and is the only example of the J2X model sold new in the country. Chassis 3209 is said to have left the factory on May 15, 1953, for delivery to Canadian importer Budd & Dyer in Montreal before being purchased new by a Quebec resident who in turn sold it to a Toronto restauranteur who drove it in the 1955 Canadian National Exhibition. The car appeared in various racing events through the late 1950s with its next owner and after another change of hands was purchased in 1962 by an Ontario owner who retained it for over 50 years. Finished in blue over red leather, the car is powered by a 331ci Cadillac OHV V8 that breathes through twin Holley four-barrel carburetors and is mated to a Jaguar four-speed manual transmission. Additional features include finned alloy drum brakes, a De Dion rear axle, a front swing axle with forward-facing radius rods, silver-painted 16” wire wheels, and a machine-turned dash. Purchased by its current owner in 2017, this J2X is now offered on dealer consignment in St. Louis, Missouri, with invoices dating back to the 1980s, marque-related magazines and articles, and Ontario registration. The J2 model was introduced around 1950 as a lightweight sports racer targeting the US market and was succeeded in late 1951 by the J2X, which featured revisions to the front suspension design and engine placement. The J2X’s steel ladder frame was 6” longer than that of its predecessor while sharing its 100” wheelbase, while the updated model’s aluminum bodywork gained a nose panel extended forward of the wheels and a single chin vent instead of two. This example is said to have been originally finished in beige and now wears an older repaint in metallic blue. Features include a hood scoop, leather hood retention straps, Lucas tri-bar headlights, dual windscreens, a rear bumper, dual Monza-style fuel filler caps, and dual exhaust outlets. Silver-painted wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are wrapped in Coker Classic tires measuring 6.00-16. A matching spare is mounted at the right side of the cowl. The hydraulic brake system utilizes finned alloy drums with inboard rear units. The cockpit houses two seats upholstered in red leather with matching upholstery over the door panels. Features include color-matched carpeting, a double-bend shifter, and a central cowl-mounted mirror. The banjo-spoke steering wheel is situated at the left-hand side of the machine-turned dash panel, which hosts Smiths instrumentation including a 150-mph speedometer with an inset clock, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and ancillary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 6,500 miles, approximately 30 of which have been added by the selling dealer. The 331ci Cadillac V8 features overhead valves under finned alloy Weiand covers and breathes through a pair of Holley four-barrel carburetors. The carburetors were rebuilt in 2015, at which time the distributor cap and rotor were replaced. The battery was replaced in May 2024. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Suspension incorporates a front swing axle and a De Dion rear end with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers at each corner. The J2X model featured radius rods attached ahead of the engine, allowing the powerplant’s positioning to be shifted forward compared to that of the J2. Areas of oxidation are present on the exhaust components. The car is pictured on the cover of the October 1959 issue of Canada Track & Traffic magazine. Various articles featuring the car are included in the sale along with invoices dating back to the 1980s. The vehicle is being sold on its Ontario registration, which serves as the ownership document in Ontario, Canada. The sale does not include a title. It has been imported into the US, and the selling dealer will assist any US-based buyer in obtaining a US title. The Ontario registration and importation paperwork list identification number J2x23209, while the chassis plate is stamped with number J2X 3209.
