This 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider was 163rd off the production line and is said to be the oldest known Giulietta Spider still racing today. It is listed as the seventh oldest Spider overall and was campaigned regularly since the 1950s in SCCA competition before being restored to vintage racing specification in 1990 by SCCA National Champion Al Leake. Rick Beress purchased the car in 1974 and raced it until he retired and passed it on to the seller in 2009. “163” has been actively campaigned in the last seven years with numerous visits to the Monterey Rolex Motorsports Reunion, Sonoma Historics, CSRG events, and twice to the SVRA National Historics. The 1,300cc race-spec engine was built by Terry Tiney of Livermore and is mated to a close-ratio 5-speed gearbox. This car has been accepted into the 2017 Monterey Motorsports Reunion/Pre-Reunion and is now offered on a bill of sale with a spare set of wheels/tires, an extra transmission, and some spares. The exterior of this Giulietta is said to remain in largely the same condition as it was following the 1990 restoration. The body appears straight with good panel gaps throughout. This Spider has been fitted with a reproduction tonneau cover modeled from the alloy version seen on the 1956 Mille Miglia car, and it is also equipped with a headrest fairing duplicated from the 1956 Sebring car. Two sets of Panasport race wheels and tires are included with the sale. The driver is held in place with a Schroth harness mounted to the integrated roll cage. The roll hoop wears stickers from several events as highlighted in the photo gallery below. A leather-wrapped Nardi steering wheel shows some expected use, while the close-ratio 5-speed gearbox was built by Steve Schwitters and is said to function well. An additional close-ratio transmission is included with the sale. The 1,300cc race-spec inline-four was built by specialist Terry Tiney of Livermore. The motor runs strong per the seller but is on its fourth season and is leaking oil from one of the seals. Recent competition results are as follows: 2014 – 2nd in Class at the SVRA National Championships at Circuit of the Americas 2013 – 1st in Class and 2nd overall at the Alfa Romeo National Meet in Northern California 2013 – 3rd in Class at the SVRA National Championships at Circuit of the Americas 2009 – 2016 – Numerous podium finishes CSRG Monterey PreHistorics, Historics, PreReunion, Reunion, – many top ten finishes over the years Several undercarriage pictures are displayed in the photo gallery. A corner of the red-painted fuel cell is shown above. The seller states that many additional race-related spares also come with the car.
