This 1956 Morgan Plus 4 is a left-hand-drive example that was ordered new in Indianapolis by its current owner, 1992 SVRA Driver of the Year Harry Gaunt, who campaigned it in SCCA events until 1959 when it was placed into storage. It was recommissioned to its present specification in 1980, and in the 1992 season Gaunt took wins at Elkhart Lake, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, and Lime Rock as well as internationally at The Nürburgring and Circuit Zolder. The car is said to have competed in over 105 races between 1956 and 2015 when it was again retired. Its Triumph 2.2-liter inline-four is paired with a Moss four-speed transmission and features dual Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, a four-into-one exhaust system, a custom aluminum radiator, and an ATL fuel cell. Additional equipment includes front disc brakes, KONI shocks, Tilton master cylinders, a Simpson five-point harness, a fire bottle, and a brake bias adjuster. This Plus 4 race car is now offered in Indiana by the seller on behalf of its current owner for off-road use only with spare parts, a car cover, and a bill of sale. The car is finished in black and features aluminum fenders, a black tonneau cover, a louvered bonnet and boot, taillights, and a single Brooklands windscreen. Silver-painted 15” wire-spoke wheels have knock-off spinners and are mounted with 205/60 Hoosier Speedster directional tires. The braking system is adjustable for front-rear bias and consists of discs up front and drums out back. The front calipers and rear cylinders have been replaced. The car is equipped with KONI shocks. The cockpit features a single seat upholstered in black vinyl and equipped with a Simpson five-point race harness. Additional equipment includes center and driver-side mirrors, a roll hoop, and a fire bottle. The seller notes the race harness will need to be replaced for competition use. The four-spoke banjo steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 110-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge with readouts for amperage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The car has been fitted with Tilton clutch and brake master cylinders. The 2.2-liter Triumph inline-four features a TR4 cylinder head, dual Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, a Mallory ignition system, a four-into-one exhaust system, a custom aluminum radiator, an ATL fuel cell, and a gear-reduction starter. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Moss four-speed manual transmission and a solid rear axle with a 3.74:1 gear ratio. A Tilton clutch is fitted. A spare engine block, two cylinder heads, an oil pan, a gearbox, and a 4.11:1 rear axle, in addition to other parts and a car cover, are included in the sale. The car does not have a title or registration and is being sold on a bill of sale only. The seller notes that there are no VIN stampings or tags visible and that the car should be inspected before competition use.
