This 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL was acquired by the selling dealer in 2022 and subsequently refurbished with work that included stripping and repainting the body in red, replacing the floors and front frame rails, re-trimming the interior in black, rebuilding the cylinder head on the 1.9-liter inline-four, and re-sealing the four-speed manual transmission. The car is equipped with a body-color removable hardtop, a push-button radio, 13″ steel wheels with hubcaps, and four-wheel drum brakes that were overhauled during the refurbishment. This 190SL is now offered with a copy of its data card, service records, and a clean South Carolina title. The car and the removable hardtop were refinished in red in March 2023, and additional refurbishment work included re-plating chrome components and replacing the window seals and door lock cylinders. The selling dealer also notes that the floors and front upper frame rails were replaced during the refurbishment. The windshield is pitted. Steel 13″ wheels wear chrome trim rings, hubcaps with body-color accents, and 175/80 Milestar Touring SLE tires. The car is equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension, rear swing axles with coil springs, and power-assisted drum brakes. The brake lines, brakes shoes, and wheel cylinders were replaced, and the brake fluid was flushed in 2023. The cabin was re-trimmed during the refurbishment and features low-back bucket seats upholstered in black leather as well as matching door panels and dashboard trim. Amenities include an analog clock, a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, and Coco mats. The seller notes the sound from the AM radio is distorted. The two-spoke steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer as well as gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 44k miles, approximately 10 of which were added under current ownership. The temperature gauge is inoperative. The 1.9-liter M121 inline-four has dual Solex carburetors and was factory rated at 104 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque. The starter and fuel lines were replaced, the cylinder head was removed and overhauled, and the coolant and engine oil were serviced in 2023. The exhaust gaskets, hangers, pipes, and mufflers were replaced in 2024. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a fully synchronized four-speed manual transmission, which was removed and re-sealed in November 2023. The seller notes the transmission and differential fluid was serviced under current ownership. A copy of the data card lists the original colors and serial numbers. Filed under: r121, sl
