This 1963 Maserati 3500 GTi Sebring is one of approximately 350 Series I examples manufactured during the model’s first two years and was delivered new on July 15, 1963, via Ditta Renzo Bordese to its first owner in Turin, Italy. The car later spent time in an Italian collection before being purchased by the seller as a project in 2017. Wearing an older repaint in black, the car is equipped with a 3,485cc DOHC inline-six that retains Lucas mechanical fuel injection and twin-spark ignition and is paired with a ZF five-speed manual transmission. Additional features include four-wheel disc brakes, coil-sprung independent front suspension, 16” Borrani wire wheels, tan leather interior upholstery, power windows, and a FrigiKing air conditioning unit. This Series I Sebring is now offered as a non-running project in Roeselare, Belgium, with copies of its factory documentation, Maserati Classiche certificates, and its Belgian vignette 705. The Sebring, or 3500 GTiS, was first introduced as a prototype in 1962 before appearing in production form at the 1963 Turin Motor Show. Given its name as an homage to Maserati’s 1957 triumph in the Sebring 12 Hours, the Vignale-bodied coupe featured Giovanni Michelotti-styled 2+2 coachwork over the chassis and running gear from the 3500 GT Spider. Originally finished in Celeste Ardenza, this example wears an older repaint in black, and various imperfections in the finish and trim are shown up close in the photo gallery below. Features include quad headlights, a hood scoop, dual vents positioned low on each fender, vertically oriented taillights, and dual exhaust outlets. Borrani wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and are wrapped in 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato tires that exhibit sidewall cracking. Stopping is handled by power-assisted disc brakes with three-piston calipers. The cabin was reupholstered under previous ownership with tan leather over 2+2 seating in place of the original blue trim. Additional features include black door-panel and dash trim, tan carpeting, an offset shifter, a perforated headliner, a console-mounted rectangular Jaeger clock, power windows, and a FrigiKing air conditioning unit. A tear is present in the dash upholstery above the instrument cluster. The three-spoke Personal steering wheel sits ahead of Jaeger instrumentation including a 250-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges monitoring coolant temperature, amperage, fuel level, oil pressure, and oil temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 75k kilometers (~47k miles), and the car has not been driven under current ownership. The 3,485cc Tipo AM101 inline-six features an aluminum block with cast iron sleeves, an aluminum cylinder head, dual overhead camshafts, twin-plug ignition, and Lucas mechanical fuel injection. The engine is not running, and videos of a compression test being performed on each cylinder are viewable below. Corrosion is visible on various surfaces in the engine bay as well as in the trunk. Internal engine number 2038 is shown stamped on the block, matching the number listed on the factory data sheet. The car is equipped with a ZF five-speed manual transmission, while suspension comprises a coil-sprung double-wishbone independent front setup and a leaf-sprung solid rear axle with telescopic shock absorbers all around. Corrosion is exhibited over various underside surfaces and components, and one of the rear shock absorbers is broken. The factory data sheet lists the original specifications and color combination of Celeste Ardenza over blue leather. Additional copies of factory documents include the shipping notice and factory order sheet, while Maserati Classiche documents include a Certificate of Origin, a historical information sheet, and a technical and aesthetic characteristic sheet. The vehicle is being sold with its Belgian vignette 705. The sale does not include a title, as the vehicle is located in a country that does not issue titles for vehicles.
