Selling dealer West Coast Classics states, “This well-known, chopped-and-stretched custom 1964 Buick Riviera known as ‘Lorraine’ was featured in Car Kulture Deluxe and Ol’ Skool Rodz magazines and was built by well-known builders Brad Masterson, Gary Brown, and John Patsimas. Brad, of Masterson Kustoms shop, which was located in the old George Barris Brothers building in Lynwood, California, had apprenticed under both George Barris and Bill Hines.” Too many other shops and companies to list here were also involved with the reimagining of this Buick.

He continues, “This car will remind you of the classic period for automotive customizing. A time when people like Dean Jeffries, Gene Winfield, Ed Roth, and George Barris were the standard bearers for a generation.”

  • The roof of this Riviera was chopped 5½ inches.
  • Its front fenders and rear quarter panels were extended 4 inches.
  • The quarter-panel ends were also re-angled to somewhat mimic the rake of the backlite.
  • The original hood ornament was removed, and the hood was extended 4 inches in the center.
  • The fender ends were custom capped.
  • Fabricated bezels surround single 1966 Cadillac upper headlights with center blades.
  • A 1957 DeSoto front bumper bar was reshaped, shortened, and sectioned front-to-back.
  • This serves as a grille bar.
  • A new front pan is below the bumper.

  • A 1965 Riviera rear bumper with modified taillights was installed, and a gravel pan was added.
  • The side scoop area behind the doors was also redesigned.
  • The firewall was smoothed.
  • A new windshield and the side windows were cut to fit the chopped top.
  • The vent wings were reworked.
  • Tamco Paint custom-mixed the color, and it was dubbed “Lorraine Green” for the car’s name.
  • All of the chrome and stainless trim, as well as the aluminum headlight blades, were redone.
  • The seller indicates that the 1964 425-cu.in. OHV V8 is not original to the car.
  • It was bored .020-inch over and rebuilt, employing parts from Egge Machine.
  • Offenhauser finned rocker covers and air cleaner dress things up.
  • A Holley 650-cfm carb, and an MSD electronic ignition were added.
  • So too, was an Alan Grove Components accessory drive system.
  • The V8 exhales through a dual exhaust with a Waldron dual-crossflow muffler.
  • An aluminum U.S. Radiator and Maradyne dual electric fans improve cooling.
  • A new GearStar 700-R4 four-speed automatic transmission was installed.
  • This required an adaptor from Bendtsen’s Speed Gems.
  • The stock Riviera shifter was modified to work with the newer 700-R4.
  • Dynotech Engineering Services rebuilt and balanced the driveshaft.
  • A Ron Francis Wiring Access 24/7 Series system was installed.
  • So too, was a Vintage Air A/C system.
  • The Riviera’s instruments were restored.
  • A custom two-tone steering wheel is mounted on a chrome Ididit tilt steering column.
  • Seat foam, the dash pad, trim, and some other interior itemsare from OPGI.

  • Truespoke 15×6 50-spoke chrome wire wheels roll on Coker whitewall radial tires.
  • No additional items were listed for this vehicle.
  • No needs were listed for this vehicle.
  • This 1964 Riviera custom was created by several high-profile shops over a 12-year period.
  • It has been featured in two magazines.
  • The car sports a chopped top and elongated fenders, hood, and quarter panels.
  • Its front and rear leading edges were reshaped.
  • Bumpers, grille, and exterior lighting also involved significant fabrication.
  • The side scoops were reimagined.
  • Molded in (at the front), non-functional lake pipes were mounted at the rocker panels.
  • A non-original Nailhead 425-cu.in. engine was upgraded with Holley, MSD, and Offenhauser parts.
  • A 700-R4 four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive backs the engine.
  • The interior has been mildly customized.

The selling dealer states that it will provide a clean and open Texas title for the proper transfer of ownership for this vehicle. Of this 1964 Buick Riviera, he adds, “You will look long and hard to find a finer example of a no-expense-spared, true one-off, and legendary ‘Barris-inspired’ custom build of an increasingly appreciated 1964-’65 Buick Riviera classic!”

Please note: If the winning bidder is a California resident, the selling dealer is required by California law to register the vehicle in the buyer’s name and collect the appropriate sales tax and registration fees. Out of state buyers will have the title assigned to them but will not be charged the California taxes and fees.
