Make: Amphicar
Model: Amphicar 770
Year: 1965

This 1965 Amphicar Model 770 is finished in red over red and white vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 1,147cc Triumph inline-four mated to a two-part manual gearbox delivering four forward speeds and reverse on land along with forward and reverse to the twin propellers. Further equipment includes 13” wheels, chrome bumpers, marine navigation lights, a nautical horn, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. The car is said to have spent time in Michigan and been refurbished prior to the selling dealer’s acquisition in 2023. Work performed in preparation for the sale has involved rebuilding the carburetor, overhauling the fuel system, repairing the right rocker panel, refinishing the underbody, and replacing the soft top as well as the brake master cylinder. This Amphicar is now offered with an owner’s manual, a white soft top boot, recent service records, and a California title. The car is finished in red and was fitted with a replacement white soft top and quarter window seals in 2023. Exterior details include chrome bumpers, hood locks, marine navigation lights, a nautical horn, a louvered engine cover, and a single exhaust outlet exiting through the tail panel. The right rocker panel was repaired in September 2023. Bubbling, corrosion, flaking paint, and other blemishes around the car can be viewed in the gallery. The selling dealer has not tested whether the car is seaworthy. White-painted 13” steel wheels are mounted with 6.50” Coker Classic whitewall tires. The front wheels serve as rudders when the car is afloat, and braking while on the ground is handled by hydraulic drums at all four corners. The brake master cylinder and hubcaps were replaced in September 2023. The cabin features a split front bench, a rear bench, and door panels trimmed in red and white vinyl. The black rubber floor mat was replaced in 2023, and additional appointments include an AM/FM cassette stereo, a heater, and door-sealing locks. MotoMeter instrumentation consists of a 90-mph speedometer, a clock, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 16 miles, and total mileage is unknown. The rear-mounted 1,147cc Standard Triumph SC inline-four was factory rated at 43 horsepower and 61 lb-ft of torque. The carburetor was rebuilt, the fuel tank was cleaned, and the fuel pump, lines, and cut-off valve were replaced in September 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels, the dual nylon propellers, or both through a two-part Hermes transmission with a four-speed manual gearbox driving the wheels and an integrated two-speed gearbox with forward and reverse gears for the propellers. The underbody was refinished in black in September 2023. The current California title carries a “Title Only” notation.
