1 Ford Flairside was recently re-acquired from the buyer that was moving to a smaller home with out garage space. Mid-Southern Restorations in Cookeville, TN., built this truck along with other F-100 Nationals winners over the past decade. These trucks in this time frame were prone to have rust issues and have proven costly to repair and rebuild to show winners. This truck was different, it was located in a desert in New Mexico, the paint was faded, the interior was sun baked, the wood in the bed floor had rot holes. The 6 cylinder and 3 speed column shift were  inoperable. The under lying beauty was the 99% rust free body that had very few dings in the original Rangoon Red paint code.  Over the next few years, has time would allow, the owners of Mid-Southern rebuilt every aspect of the truck. The complete suspension was rebuilt using urethane bushings and NOS parts. The Ford drum brakes are are the larger 68 units. They are manual and whoa power is supplied by a Wilwood master Cylinder. It stops like it should.  For go power a 500 HP built early DOVE-A 460 was ordered up with DOVE-C heads and installed along with a pro-built C-6 and correct torque converter for application. Headers and dual exhaust make this thing sound great  The original 9 inch ford was retained but a new set of 3:00 gears and true lock posi was put in the pumpkin. Plenty of power and good cruising gears for I-State driving.
With the body being rust free, the original floors are in the truck and are original paint. The front cab mounts which are notorious for rot are in perfect condition. This truck is solid. The dings were smoothed out and the cab and bed box were repainted factory colors and an Oak bed kit was installed.  Stainless Steel trim from the Sports Custom series were added around windshield, rear glass and drip molding. The original West Coast Junior Mirrors were restored and re-installed.  The original bench seat was recovered, a new headliner , and interior paint round out the inside. A floor shifter was added to handle the C-6 and sits upon a new floor mat. An IDIDIT tilt column makes it more comfortable along with the Vintage Air A/C. Tunes are from Custom stereo.
The truck has been upgraded to Power steering and the wiring from original was removed and replaced  using an American Auto Wire kit. All The old factory gauges were replace and the gauge cluster was custom built using high end components.
This was built to be driven and enjoyed. It’s not a trailer queen show truck but shows well. It was built using the best name brand parts for this application. Smiles per mile when you are in control of throttle pedal.
Any questions or comments , I will answer. With the high cost of everything these days there is no way you could build the quality in this truck for the set price. Values of these Ford Shorty Bump trucks continue to rise.
