Year: 1969

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro convertible is equipped with the Z11 option, which added the RS and SS packages as well as trim in the style of the Camaro pace car used at the 1969 Indianapolis 500. Purchased by the seller’s father in 1972, the car is finished in white with orange stripes over an orange vinyl and cloth interior. It is powered by a 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 linked to a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a white convertible soft top, 14″ Rally wheels, power steering, a cowl-induction hood, chrome bumpers, front and rear spoilers, an AM/FM radio, an eight-track player, and a cabin heater. This Camaro SS convertible is now offered by the seller on behalf of his mother with a spare set of wheels and an Ohio title in the owner’s name. The Z11 package was introduced in early 1969 to outfit a limited run of production convertibles with trim replicating that of the official pace cars built for the 53rd Indianapolis 500. Fewer than 3,700 cars were sold with the option, all finished in Dover White with Z/28-style stripes in Hugger Orange. This example was repainted approximately 30 years ago and features a white convertible soft top, a cowl-induction hood, front and rear spoilers, and chrome bumpers. The seller notes bubbling in the paint behind the left-rear wheel and blemishes in the paint on the hood. The 14″ Rally wheels are mounted with 205/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Power-assisted steering has been added, and braking is handled by power-assisted front and rear drums. The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in orange vinyl and with houndstooth cloth inserts. Interior appointments include an AM/FM radio with an eight-track player, extended seat sliders, a cabin heater, and woodgrain trim. The eight-track player does not work, and the seller reports a low brake pedal. Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a 7k-rpm tachometer. Auxiliary gauges are mounted ahead of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 38k miles. The 396ci Turbo-Jet V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and routes power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. Extended cold starts are noted by the seller.
