For 1969, Dodge introduced the Dart Swinger, a new base-model version of its compact, now based on the two-door hardtop body style previously reserved for upmarket Darts like the GT and GTS. At the same time, Dodge took the opportunity to create a sort of mini Road Runner by offering the Swinger 340—the stripped-down model with the high-performance small-block engine. This ’69 Dart Swinger 340 has been extensively modified, but it still has its base-model steering wheel and low-frills front bench seat, with the factory-style Hurst shifter snaking up around the bottom cushion. The trim tag shows this Dart left the factory in R6 red and with a Dodge Dart Swinger is said to be in “excellent, restored condition.” In fact, it was reportedly built 25 years ago and spent most of its time in a Canadian collector’s climate-controlled storage space, one reason the work appears to be holding up very well. The car was restored in Canada and spent most of its time there before coming to the United States and its current home in North Carolina. Under the hood is a performance-built 340 V8 that’s said to produce more than 600 horsepower and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission.

  • The engine is a non-original 340-cu.in. OHV V8, rated at 625 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque.
  • It’s based on a Mopar Performance engine block with Brodix aluminum heads.
  • There’s also an aluminum intake manifold, a four-barrel carburetor, and long-tube headers.
  • The headers flow into a custom dual-exhaust system.
  • For cooling, there’s a racing-style aluminum radiator.
  • The engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission.
  • It sends torque to a performance-built rear axle fitted with 38-spline axle shafts and 4.30 gears.
  • The car was resprayed red during the restoration and the finish appears in very good shape.
  • A correct-appearing black tail stripe was added.
  • All the exterior chrome and trim appear in very good condition.
  • The black, vinyl-trimmed interior appears largely stock, apart from a few aftermarket instruments.
  • A Hurst shifter is linked to the four-speed transmission.
  • They include an Auto Meter tachometer mounted on the dashboard and a trio of supporting gauges.
  • The upholstery on the front and rear bench seats shows minimal wear.
  • The same can be said of the carpet.
  • The door panels, headliner and dash pad also appear in good condition.
  • Some wear is seen on the lower half of the dashboard and steering column.
  • The car retains its original radio.
  • The brakes have been upgraded with Wilwood discs.
  • Mickey Thompson tires are mounted on polished Weld five-spoke, 15-inch wheels.
  • A car cover and invoices for the restoration work are included.
  • A small area in the paint, between the rear window and trunk opening, has split and peeled.
  • Some wear is seen on the lower half of the dashboard and the steering column.
  • This modified Dodge Dart’s restoration is older but appears to have held up well.
  • Under the hood is a replacement 340 V8 engine matched with a four-speed transmission.
  • The engine has Brodix aluminum heads, an aluminum intake, and a four-barrel carburetor.
  • Repainted red during the restoration, the finish shows well but has a small area of peeling.
  • The black bench-seat interior also appears in very good condition, with some wear on the dash.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean North Carolina title in his name. This 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger was restored and upgraded about 25 years ago and it has been in the seller’s possession for about a year. Prior to his purchase of the car, it reportedly spent its entire life with a collector in Canada in a climate-controlled environment. It’s said to be in very good condition, with a high-performance 340 V8 pumping out more than 600 horsepower.
