1969 Mercury Cougar

This 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 was one of 96 convertibles equipped with a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 and a three-speed automatic transmission for the model year and was first sold at Guy Steuart Motors of Silver Spring, Maryland, on March 12, 1969. The car was refurbished by Kevin Marti in 1989 and is refinished in blue over white leather and vinyl. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, a Ram Air induction system, a white soft top, power-assisted front disc brakes, power steering, 14″ Magnum 500-style wheels, front bucket seats, an AM/FM radio, power windows, and air conditioning. This Cougar XR-7 was acquired by the current owner in 2017 and is now offered on dealer consignment with a window sticker, dealer invoice, Marti Report, warranty card, service records, and a clean California title. The car was factory-finished in Bright Blue Metallic and refinished in 1989. Exterior equipment includes a replacement white convertible soft top, concealed headlights, and sequential rear turn signals. Ram Air models were also equipped with a functional hood scoop. The 14″ Magnum 500-style wheels are mounted with 225/70 BFGoodrich Silvertown redline tires. Stopping is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The cabin houses front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in white leather and vinyl, and interior appointments include an AM/FM radio, power windows, and air conditioning. The rear power windows are inoperative. The steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 59k miles, approximately 20 of which were added under current ownership. The R-Code 428ci Cobra Jet V8 was factory equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and an optional Traction Lok limited-slip differential.
