This 1971 Oldsmobile 442 convertible is one of 1,304 examples built for the model year and is powered by a 455ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in brown over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes a W-25-style hood, W-30 emblems, and side stripes in addition to a black soft top, 15″ Super Stock-style wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, air conditioning, and a retro-style digital stereo. The car was imported to Canada under prior ownership and was acquired by the seller in 2015. Work performed in preparation for the sale involved recharging the air conditioning system with R12 refrigerant and performing an oil change. This 442 convertible is now offered in Canada with an owner’s manual, partial service records, memorabilia, spare parts, and Ontario registration in the seller’s name. Finished from the factory in Sienna (67), the car was repainted in the early 1990s, at which time a patch repair was performed to the bottom of the right rear quarter panel and W-30-style badging and stripes were added. A W-25-style hood and a replacement power-operated black soft top have also been installed, and additional exterior details include body-color sports-styled mirrors, chrome bumpers, and dual-exhaust outlets with chrome-finished trumpets. Chrome-finished 15″ Super Stock-style wheels are mounted with 255/60 front and 275/60 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires, while a full-size spare is stored in the trunk. Reproduction red inner fender wells have been added up front. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The interior features bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black vinyl while woodgrain trim accents the dashboard, door panels, and center console. Three-point seatbelts were installed for the front occupants under current ownership, and additional interior appointments include carpeted floor mats, a wooden shift knob, a power-operated trunk release, and a retro-style digital stereo. The air conditioning system was recharged with R12 refrigerant in preparation for the sale. The four-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and an analog clock. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 70k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The 455ci V8 features a W-30 Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, an aluminum W-455 intake manifold, and an OAI air intake housing. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale, and an oil leak from the engine is noted by the seller. The engine-pad identification stamping is pictured above. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission and a replacement Oldsmobile-sourced 12-bolt rear end said to be fitted with 3.42:1 gearing. A transmission fluid leak is noted, and the seller states the car must reach operating temperature for the transmission to shift correctly.
