1972 Citroen DS

This 1972 Citroen ID21 station wagon is said to have been delivered to its first owner in California and reportedly remained in his care until 1986. The car was acquired by its third owner in 2013 and refurbished in 2014 before it was purchased by the current owner from the selling dealer. It is finished in blue with a white roof over brown upholstery, and power comes from a 2,175cc inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include European-market swivel headlights, a split tailgate, rear jump seats, and an AM/FM radio. This ID21 is now offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with an owner’s manual, literature, spare LHM fluid and octane booster, spare rear seat belts, French-style license plates, floor mats, and a clean California title. The body was refinished in Cream over Bleu Camargue in 2014, at which time replacement body and window seals were installed. European-market Marchal swivel headlights are also installed, and additional features include a split tailgate, a roof rack, and dual side-view mirrors. A scratch is noted on the right quarter panel and trim behind the rear wheel. The car retains its California blue license plate, and a set of French plates are included in the sale. Painted 15″ steel wheels wear full chrome covers on the left side and center caps on the right, and they are mounted with Michelin XAS radial tires that were installed in 2014. A five-cylinder hydraulic suspension pump was also installed, and the steering rack was rebuilt. Equipment includes a self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension, power steering, and power-assisted brakes with inboard-mounted front discs and rear drums. A leak is noted from one of the left front suspension spheres. The cabin features front bucket seats trimmed in brown woven cloth upholstery with a matching rear bench. Replacement gray carpets, brown vinyl front door panels, a white headliner, and a front armrest were installed in 2014. Additional features include a heater, a Clarion AM/FM radio, and manual crank windows. The leather-wrapped single-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph Jaeger speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, an array of warning lights, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows just over 71k miles. Total mileage is unknown. Two inward-facing jump seats trimmed in brown vinyl are mounted beneath the trunk floor. The 2,175cc inline-four features a single Weber downdraft carburetor. Service performed in 2014 included a radiator overhaul as well as the installation of a replacement starter, electronic ignition, and a distributor. Power is sent to the front wheels through a column-shifted four-speed manual transmission.
