This 1973 Citroën SM was acquired by the seller in 2010 and underwent a subsequent refurbishment that included a repaint, a suspension refresh, replacement of the timing chains, and rebuilds of the carburetors. The car is finished in silver over brown leather and powered by a 3.0-liter Maserati V6 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a hydropneumatic suspension system, self-centering power steering, air conditioning, an AM/FM radio, power windows, ANSA exhaust finishers, and 15″ wheels. This SM is now offered in Canada with reproduction workshop manuals and Ontario registration. The body was stripped and repainted in its current silver finish in 2012. Exterior features include US-specification headlights and turn signals as well as stainless-steel bumpers, rear fender skirts, a driver-side mirror, a power antenna, and quad polished ANSA exhaust finishers. The windshield is said to have been replaced during the refurbishment. Steel 15” wheels wear polished stainless-steel covers and are mounted with 205/70 Goodyear Assurance tires. The car rides on a self-leveling and height-adjustable hydropneumatic suspension with parallel semi-trailing arms up front and trailing arms out back. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted units up front. The brake accumulator, hydraulic pump, suspension spheres, and height correctors are said to have been replaced under current ownership. The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in brown leather with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. The suspension height is set with a lever to the left of the driver’s seat, and additional appointments include a push-button AM/FM radio in the center console as well as air conditioning and power windows. A self-canceling turn signal switch from a later model SM has been fitted, and the window regulators were rebuilt during the refurbishment. The single-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and a combination gauge. Auxiliary gauges and a clock are located in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles. The 3.0-liter V6 was sourced from Maserati, a subsidiary of Citroën at the time, and is equipped with three Weber two-barrel carburetors. An auxiliary shaft drives the hydraulic pump, alternator, and rotary air conditioning compressor. Work performed under current ownership is said to have included rebuilding the carburetors, refurbishing the fuel tank, and installing the following replacement parts: Timing chains Fuel pump PerTronix electronic ignition distributor Air conditioning compressor Water pump seal Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle mounted ahead of the engine. Photos taken at various stages of the refurbishment are presented in the gallery.
