This 1978 AM General M109A3 is a former military vehicle that was modified and refurbished in 2021 by Boyce Equipment and Parts Company of Ogden, Utah. The work was commissioned by the seller and involved replacing the clutch, cylinder head gasket, and rear main seal as well as repainting the body in Dark Gun Metal Gray, retrimming the seats with black vinyl, and installing a fiberglass top, a cargo bed, a locking rear differential, 20″ wheels, and street lighting. The truck is powered by a turbocharged 478ci multi-fuel inline-six linked to a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional equipment includes hinged windshield panels, a black exhaust stack, an equipment box, and West Coast-style mirrors. This modified M109A3 is now offered with a clean California title in the seller’s name. The body was refinished in Dark Gun Metal Gray by Boyce Equipment during the refurbishment, while the chassis is painted black. Equipment includes a fiberglass cab top, street lighting, a steel front bumper and rear bumperettes, West Coast-style mirrors, and an under-body toolbox as well as a seven-wire trailering harness, a receiver hitch, and a pintle hitch. The cargo bed is coated with bedliner material and is outfitted with tie-down anchors, stake pockets, and a fold-down tailgate. Black-finished 20″ steel wheels are mounted with 395/85 Michelin X tires, and cracks are present on the left-rear and right-front sidewalls. Stopping power is from air-assisted hydraulic drum brakes. The truck measures approximately 96″ wide, 229″ long, and 109″ tall to the top of the exhaust stack. The cab features individual seats that have been reupholstered in black vinyl with diamond-pattern stitching accompanied by body-colored metal surfaces and replacement rubber floor coverings. Additional appointments include a spring-suspended driver’s seat, a cabin heater, a defroster, a glovebox, a sliding rear window, and instructional placards. A 60-amp 24-volt to 12-volt step-down transformer has been installed along with a 12-volt power outlet. Instrumentation consists of a 60-mph speedometer, a 4k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 15k miles, approximately 50 of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The turbocharged 478ci inline-six features multi-fuel capability and is equipped with an aftermarket alternator. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and an ARB locking rear differential. The clutch was replaced in 2021.
