This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette is one of approximately 6,502 Pace Car Edition examples produced to commemorate the model’s use as the pace car for the 1978 running of the Indianapolis 500. The car is powered by a 350ci L82 V8 linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction differential, and it is finished in black and silver over silver leather upholstery. Additional equipment includes 15″ eight-slot alloy wheels, removable glass roof panels, a push-button AM/FM stereo, a CB radio, and power windows and door locks. The car was acquired by the seller in 2015 and it now shows 9k miles. This special-edition C3 Corvette is now offered in Canada with the owner’s manual, a window sticker, spare wheels and tires, uninstalled Pace Car decals, and Ontario registration. The 1978 Corvette featured a revised fastback roofline with wraparound rear glass, and all Pace Car examples were finished in two-tone black and silver with a red stripe below the blend line. Exterior equipment includes removable glass T-top roof panels, pop-up headlights, side marker lights, fender air vents, sport mirrors, and quad taillights. A crack is visible on the front chin spoiler and the seller reports that the right side high-beam headlight does not function. Uninstalled Pace Car decals are included in the sale. The 15″ eight-slot alloy wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel power-assisted discs. The cabin features bucket seats trimmed in silver leather along with a color-matching dash, center console, door panels, and carpeting. Interior amenities include a push-button AM/FM stereo, a CB radio, power windows and door locks, a tilting steering column, and air conditioning. The seller states the interior courtesy lights do not come on when the door opens and that the air conditioning does not function. The three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. A clock and supplementary gauges are located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 9k miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership. The 350ci L82 V8 is equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and an aluminum intake manifold and was factory rated at 220 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The radiator hoses and battery are said to have been replaced under current ownership. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction differential. The window sticker lists factory colors, equipment, and options as well as a total price of $14,587.21. An owner’s manual, spare set of wheels and tires, and uninstalled Pace Car decals are included in the sale and can be viewed in the gallery below. Filed under: c3
